  1. If I archive my SVCDs in this way, and there are only 275 DVD players that play SVCDs with the header trick out of 3700, do you think players that play SVCD with the header trick will become obsolete real soon and I'll have no way of watching all my non-standard SVCDs?

I dunno how long regular SVCD players will last, but I'm worried VCD Header trick players will become obsolete a lot sooner since companies either won't make players that play VCD (but regular SVCD) anymore because of the low quality, or they'll all easily make players that all play regular standard SVCDs.

Any1 have a theory about this ? Thanks.

More people are buying dvd burners and converting their svcd to dvd so it wont matter much about svcd playback and since that is happening the only svcd i care to convert are the vhs backup captures, its much easier to backup with the original dvd you own to dvdr.

  3. Wait, are you talking about SVCDs with a VCD header ? I can convert even those to DVD ? I don't have a DVD burner yet, but this is good news if I can convert my SVCDs with VCD header to be a playable DVD.

So far, my computer doesn't seem to like playing SVCDs with the header trick. It stopped playing all SVCDs on the media player when I converted one to a VCD header. But they do work on my DVD player. So I thought it wasn't possible to convert to a different format once you've changed the header.

Sure, you can remove the headers and re-encode to dvd compliant files, once you get a dvd burner the files need to be 352x480 at 48 khz audio.Dvdpatcher can restore the original header.

  5. You can always play 'em on your computer with a TV out -- you do have a TV olut on your video card, don't you?
DVD-Rs are cheap and getting cheaper. Under a buck even for relatively high-quality DVD-Rs like Riteks. Why bother with SVCD? Just encode for DVD format.

  6. OK, so the only thing I need is DVDpatcher ? Thanks a lot John !

C'mon electro, I happen to like SVCDs. I just only bought an external CD burner. Can't just go out and buy a DVD burner too. And didn't you hear that I said my computer doesn't play any SVCDs anymore because of me changing the header and trying it on one of the media players. The plug-ins got confused or something because of the header change. I can't use TV out anyway.
