I've got a aiw 9600 pro, and i've tried using mmc 8.1 because i heard you can capture in any codec you choose, well i was getting a million errors and it just wasn't working. So i'm stuck with 8.9, if i capture in mp-4 the files are huge, so is there any way to capture in Divx?
P.S. i'm capturing tv programs if that helps

DivX is not a good codec to use for real time capturing. Not all codecs are good for use when capturing. DivX is not meant to be used to encode on-the-fly, like what is required when you capture video.
If you really want smaller files, you could try capturing in mpeg2, using a high bitrate (at least 8mbps if you plan on reencoding). If file size wasn't an issue for you, you could try Huffyuv. -
Divx captures don't look good and drop frames, at least in all my tests.

Why would you not be able to change the codec you're using?Originally Posted by hay112
You can change your avi preset (or create a new one) and change the codec to whatever one you want that's available on your system. Just edit your preset or create a new profile, and in the recording wizard where it says "Select the video codec to use", change it to another codec.
It's not dependent on the version of MMC you're using. Like we've already said, DivX is not a good codec to use for capturing, and the errors you see when trying to capture in DivX is an example of why not to use it.i understand that it's not good for real time capturing, but is there way to do it with 8.9 -
The file size only depends on the bitrate you select. You can get good MPEG-4 captures using MMC 8.9 (not the same than using the DivX codec, which is slow as hell).
