  1. Hello,

could anyone tell me which is a good media brand for Toshiba 5112 DVD-R? I have bought Samsung DVD-Rs but although they are supposed to record 4x speed I cannot record more than 2x. Moreover I have a freezing problem on 2/3 of the movie. Could it be due to the disks I use? I backup and compress with dvdshrink and burn with nero 6.

    thanks

Update your firmware from here http://trtsoft.webzdarma.cz/toshiba/toshiba.htm (direct link http://trtsoft.webzdarma.cz/toshiba/SD-R5112-1033.zip)

I use Prodisc 4x media without any problems.

Don't know. Shouldn't make it any worse

Before the firmware update Prodisc 4x would only burn at 1x. Also my KProbe scans now look better with 4x Taiyo Yuden, and the 4x Prodisc burns look better than the 1x Prodisc burns.

I'm running Windows 2KPro, with the Toshiba as Secondary Master.

I just unzipped, ran the exe, read the instructions, clicked ok, reboot, flash, reboot, all is good

  8. thanks namdekan,

but which software do you use for compression and recording? Yesterday I used DVD X Copy to record a SmartBuy brand DVD-R and the result was perfect. So the problem was either my Samsung DVD-Rs or the DVD Shrink + Nero 6 combination. I will do a few more tries with shrink+nero on disks other than Samsung to see what happens.
