  1. I am looking for peoples opinions on this one. i have been doing xvcds for awhile now and i want to know what ya'll think of my settings and to see if ya'll think there is something i can do to further improve my quality. or if there are any additional programs i can use to enhance my xvcds. all of my source mpgs are taken from dvds that i buy at the store. i make backup copies of all my movies. i use 2 80 minute cd/r per movie.

    Programs I use:

    dvd decyrpter
    dvd2avi
    tmpgenc 2.5 plus
    chapter xtractor
    fitcd
    vcdeasy

    [/b]DVD Decrypter
    used to extract vob files to harddrive.

    DVD2AVI Settings
    forced film
    decode to WAV ( AC3, LPCM)
    Dolby Digital DEcode --> Dolby Surround Downmix

    TMPGeNC 2.5 Plus

    use the project wizard
    load the video and audio
    use cource range to split movie in exact half (1 half per cd)
    video type ---> non-interlace
    Aspect Ration ---> 4:3 525 line (NTSC 704x480)
    Video (in the expert settings section):
    size --> 352x240
    framerate --> 23.967
    rate control mode --> 2 pas vbr (max 2200 min 1500)
    motion search --> high quality (slow)
    use the percent of disk space to auto determine avg bitrate.
    GOP Structure (in expert settings section):
    output bitstream fro edit (closed GOP)
    detect schene change
    Quantize Matrix
    No motions search for still picture part by half pixel
    soften block noise --> intra-block 35 non-intra block 35
    Chapter Xtractor
    used to get exact chapter entry points for menu & schene selection menu
    VCDEasy
    used to create menu and schenes and burn xvcd.

    so what do ya'll think? good setup? anything i need to do to improve audio or video quality? thanks for all the input.

  2. With those bitrate settings, I would think soften block noise would not be needed. Or you could try 352x480 res, perhaps.

    Looks good overall, I never used VCD much.
