Has anyone had one of the above units fail on them? As far as I know Canopus units are very reliable and have a good track record.

I had just captured a half hour programme, converted it to DVD then commenced capturing another programme which was an hour long.

SO I went out to make a cup of coffee, leaving the capture going but when I came back 15 minutes later the capture programme had stopped and it said it could not find the capture device.

No amount of booting or checking the IEE 1394 hardware could find the DV input source.

Took it back to the shop, they could not get it to work either so its on its way back to Canopus for them to have a look.

THe mother board has a VIA chip on it, I believe they are not that great.

If it turns out that the Canopus is OK ( I won't jump to conclusions based on the shop's effort) I'll be trialling a separate firewire card but have been advised to keep away from VIA chipsets.

Anyone got some recommendations or similar experiences?

It wasn't with a Canopus product but on my older computer the motherboard had a VIA chipset and when I would output the video to my video camera I would get random blue screens on the video that would not be there when I edited. I was using pinnacle 7 (like I said older computer). I found a driver fix that corrected the problem. But I decided it was way too much trouble and the next motherboard I bought DID NOT have a VIA chipset.

I'm sorry this happened to you but I would recommend forgoing the VIA products. Sucks to be VIA.

I think I found the driver fix on pinnacle's website. But no gaurantees its still there.
