I have just started out with trying to put my videos on cd to watch them on my dvd player. I have ASF files then when converted to VCD or SVCD are over 1 gig (therefore can't be put on one cd) I saw something called DVD-R on the leaflet of a blank cd and was wondering whether I am able to burn the converted file to the dvd-R media using my normal cd burner, or do I require some special kind of hardware to do this?????????

no, the hardware needed would be a DVD BURNER, the same reason you cant put/use a DVD disk in a CD-ROM.

So is there DVD burners out there like CD/DVD readers????
what are the brands I should be looking at if there are??
Sorry im all new to this -
You can only burn DVD-R/RW,DVD+R/RW media with a DVD Burner. The technology hasn't really advanced far enough for standard consumer use right now. (Low end DVDR-Burners available for around $800 now)
The 1 GB filesize shouldn't matter as long as the file is (S)VCD compliant and the running time is less then 74/80 minutes though. -
unfortunately the running time is around 1 hour 30 minutes for each file, I guess the only option I have then is split the race into 45 minute slot and put them on 2 cds?
