Why are people banned from the forum for several days (it says one, but I registed late at night so it was really two for me) after the register? I found the implication (anyone who just registed is a worthless idiot) to be extremely offensive personally (especially since I just registed to respond to a post I saw, oh well). Just a bit of a comment, that you may want to change this to avoid driving people like myself away. The implications you're making are not at all nice.

I found nothing wrong with having to wait to post....
Don't take it personally

Dunno what you're talking about, I never had to wait after registerning
-Yar, matey!- -
Sure, you're still welcome here. I agree, do not read too much into it. You will still be able post to the thread in question. We all had to wait to post just as you did, and none of us are the worse for it. See you when you are fully registered!
Hello. -
I know, I'm sorry. It just really hit a nerve I guess. There was a definite implication, I felt, in it. I know I was probably wrong and I guess I shouldn't have taken it so personally, and yeah, I'll stick around (the question I was going to reply to was answered anyways), but I wonder how many don't. And how many others take it like I did?

I think the main reason for the "time out" is to encourage newbies to do some research on their own (by reding the Guides and searching forum postings) before they post a question that has been answered many many many times before. With digital video going mainstream, the site gets much more newbie traffic than it used to.

it is accually to prevent spammers and advertisers from posting as easly ...
thats all ...
many forums do the same thing .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
This is a hobby of patience anyhow. You should be used to it by now. If you're a newbie, then get ready to get used to it. Video is not a do-it-now-real-quick kind of thing.

Its not a ban, its merely a waiting period while your membership is approved. they review the sites you have visited over the previous 48 hours, your income details marital status and then let you spam us.

By keeping a person from posting for a short period, the hope is they will do forum searches and click on lots of the buttons to your left, and actually learn something. Otherwise, you get first posts that look like this:
Whazzup?
I just downloaded Return of the King off KaZaa and I was wondering if somebody would tell me how to take the file and make a DVD out of it. And I want AC3 and DTS on the disc but I don't have a clue what the hell I'm doing so I'll need step-by-step instructions. And can you recommend all the software I'll need so I can find serial cracks and keygens, or better yet, just PM me and I'll trade you them for movies. I must have 500 movies I've downloaded the last six months. And since I don't know what I'm doing, could I send you the file so you can do all the work for me and then just FTP me the final product 'cause I don't have that much time to actually do the work and learn how it's done?
Thanks for all your help!
Don't believe me? Well, it just so happens we see this, or variations of other such stupidity, on a regular basis around here...

We did it because we had hundreds of people register just to post links to their website, or a page to make them money, or an ad for their product, or a nasty picture, or other crap like that. We figured if they had to wait then they probably wouldn't find it worth their time to do it. Nothing more, nothing less.
It also is a time that we hope people look through the guides before they ask a question, but sadly it just doesn't happen that way -

Can I use macrovision to stop my ebay clients from copying the DVD movies I've converted from AVI's downloaded from Kazaa? Do I need to CSS them instead? How do I go about this?
-
One time I got this PM from a chap wanting me to do his DVD rips for him and that it was ok as he had the original disks. He complained that it was too difficult for him to do himself - just send me the movies please.

Thank god for mods. Noobs everywhere who haven't done any research wanting the world to be given to them yesterday.
It amazes me that people can read and agree to the AUP and then flagrantly flaunt it. Note to mods - instead of formal warnings invoke a bit of zero tolerance and expel them for life !
The secret here is how you ask your questions. Instead of saying that you are copying a rented DVD, say you are backing up one of your private collection. Instead of asking for help with a downloaded movie not even out on DVD yet, say you have converted one of your own collection to AVI and need help format-shifting. Never blame the software for your own misgivings. Pinnacle for example couldn't afford to charge the amounts they do if they make a crap product.
It doesn't take einstein to work out that if video is between 24 and 30 fps that a 2 hour movie containing somewhere between 170,000 and 215,000 frames cannot be re-encoded, resized and have a couple of filters applied while you watch the simpsons. If what we all do here were easy there wouldn't be a movie industry or video shops.
It must be late.If in doubt, Google it. -
Probably 98% of posts by people with less than 20 posts (read newbies) can all be answered by reading the guides. Maybe once a week there's a valid question about a specific detail.
The practical use of the delay is to force the people that register to read and search for the answer, instead of asking what software they need to put thier illegal-bootleg-downlaoded AVI's onto DVDR.To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan
