Hello!
I am about to burn a new SVCD. The 2 files that I have are each 700MB. The problem that I got is that the files have black borders not only at the top and bottom of the screen but also at the right and left I think it is called a Letterbox format. Will those borders be visible when I watch in on my 4:3 television and my Widescreen TV?.
If so is there a way to get rid of them before burning them?
If so how do I do it?

How large are the borders? Is it just a thin black border around the whole movie? If so you should be fine. I know that old 4:3 TVs maybe new ones cut off the far outside of the info shown. Not much but just a bit of it. So I would not worry about a thin border. But if it looks like a widescreen movie playing on a 4:3 as in huge black borders on the bottom and top and smaller ones on the left and right I would assume they would show up. At least on the 4:3. On the widescreen you might have to switch to letterbox mode on your dvd player. At least thats what I assume the letterbox mode is for on a dvd player. Dont have a widescreen tv so never really got to use it.
This is my first real reply to a question... i hope its sort of right. -
Hello!
It is a widescreen SVCD meaning it has thick black borders at the top and at the bottom. The black borders at the sides are also thick but not as thick as the ones above and below the picture. Will I be able to play it on my TV whitout borders on the sides?.Sincerely Joakim Agren! -
SVCD does not support aspect ratio flags like DVD does. SVCD is always 4:3 and your SVCD will playback with the black bars. You might try the DVD players zoom button, might help.

On the 4:3 I would guess so sort of like a widescreen DVD. On the widescreen i dont know maybe will show however a windscreen dvd looks. Just give it a try I dont know much about SVCDs.

Hello!
My Sony DVP-NS330 DVD player does not have a zoom function!. But my Sony backprojection 51" Widescreen TV does!. It has Zoom,Smart Zoom,Wide and 4:3 modes. Hopefully the bars will be gone in Zoom mode!.
Is there a way of editing those bars out with some software?. Maybe it is complicated hopfefully not!Sincerely Joakim Agren! -
The only way to edit is to re-encode with TMPG and use the "crop frame" feature. Remember that about 10% of the image will be lost in the TV's overscan area anyway, so small borders won't be visable on most TV's.

I haven't read nothing yet that restricts the A/R to 4:3 in SVCD Specs...
One might call it XSVCD, but it does work...
Even if TMPGenc pops up a warning msg when one unlocks the A/R feature, the added flag is recognized by players...
Vegas's Main Concept encoder allows 16:9 as well, without any warning...
When I playback the rendered file, WinDVD automatically sets the window to 16:9...
And I have no problem with my JVC SetTop Player.. -
Hello!
It turned out Ok. No need to convert it!. There was only black borders at the Top and Bottom of my Widescreen TV. I then used the Zoom Mode and those where gone also. The movie then played well looking like a ordinary Wide Screen DVD.Sincerely Joakim Agren!
