/If they do how can you tell?
how would you encode it back into an SVCD keeping this info for your decoder to work with?

A) Yes, they can.
B) No way. SVCD is limited to 2 channel MP2 audio.

Ehm, Mats....
Dolby Prologic IS 2 channel!!! The surround information is decoded from the 2 channels...
Prologic is nothing more than a bandpass filter which filters a specific frequencyrange out of both channels and redirects these to the surround channels.
So converting audio to mpeg2 should always keep prologic information.

You're correct - in my head I somehow translated to DTS 5.1... But I still doubt if it's possible to do more than stereo audio for a SVCD.

Hmmm,
Maybe it works with an XSVCD, but that depends on Maxibonk's DVD-player... Try multiplexing mpeg2 video with DD 5.1 AC3 audio... As far as I know it should work... At least my player supports it!!!

SVCD video + AC3 audio does not work on mine... (Centrum Libra / VESEG Hollywood II clone)

Mats,
But you are right... SVCD normally does NOT support more than 2 channels... XSVCD is not a standard format. I'm just lucky that my player supports it... (H&B DVD-5415S)
