I noticed that not very many tools are able to mux AC3 sound.

I have a ripped MPEG-2 video (.m2v) and would liek to mux it with AC3 sound. Which tool is able to do that?

    TIA

  2. You can use IfoEdit which is free or you can use TMPGEnc Plus which is around fifty dollars. I use TMPGEnc Plus in combination with TMPGEnc's DVD Author which is a rock solid combination. I can use a menu (or not) and make chapter points with no problems. Also, the finished product plays flawlessly on my standalone.

*You can make chapter points with IfoEdit, but I can't exactly remember how I did it right now. Also, the end result played quite choppily which is probably the reason why. Both of TMPGEnc's products have trial periods (30 Days), so you have some time to experiment.

The ability to mux Ac3 with .m2v video streams is aprt of the free functionallity of TmpGenc. AFAIK, Only the mpeg-2 encoder functionallity requires it to be registered.

I have noticed that some programs (i.e. mpeg2vcr) the .ac3 isn't an available audio selection in the pull down but if you choose all files *.* then choose the .ac3 it mux them just fine.

Ok, that seems to work. TMPGEnc seems to do the job, but the AC3 streams seems to have some problems. It was ripped using VobEdit. Even AC3fix doesn't fix the AC3 stream.

What else can I try to fix the AC3 stream?

BTW, I ripped 3 AC3 streams from this DVD. All 3 show the same errors when muxing. Also HeadAC3he reports that these streams contain errors.

I did some more tests. That material I have is:

    1. video mpeg-2 stream in m2v format
    2. audio in mp2 and ...
    3. ... ac3 format (same content)

    a. When I use TMPGEnc to mux 1. and 2., I get the TMPGEnc error:
773030 s packets cause buffer underflow.
The MPEG file might cause error when it plaved.

I have no clue what this error means !!!???

    b. When I use TMPGEnc to mux 1. and 3., I get the TMPGEnc error:
    Illegal Dolby Digital (AC-3) stream.

After this error, I applied AC3fix to the audio stream. The resulting stream (same length) produced the same error in TMPGEnc.

    What does go wrong here?

  7. Try ripping the Ac3 using a different ripper. (You don't say which ripper you used).

I use smartripper to demux the files and tmpgenc to remux all the time and I never receive errors, even with ac3 or mp2 audio.

I found the problem. It wasn't DVD Decrypter. The last chapter of the main movie was 00:00:00 hours long (!?!?), and somehow messed everything up. No clue why this chapter is there. After I disabled it from the rip, eveything went fine!

    Anyways, thanks for the answers.
