  1. I had a few VCDs that have glitches whenever I play it using my Creative 52x CD-ROM. However, if I use my Ricoh 8x8x32x CD-R/RW drive, I don't have these glitches.

Why is this happening? My Creative CD-ROM is stated to read at 52x, but from testing it using Nero CD Speed, the maximum speed I get reading VCDs is 7-8x. Is this the reason? My CD-ROM is too slow?

My VCDs are burnt on Ricoh Platinum CD-Rs. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

  2. Off the top of my head, I can think of two things.

First would be media/burn speed. I have a Plextor CD-ROM that absolutely hates Memorex CD-R burned faster than 2X speed. It reads everything elese I have thrown at it fine... But those Memorex discs just gives it hell. However, my Toshiba CD-ROM and Hi-Val DVD play them fine. Go figure.

As a test, you could try copying a problem VCD to a different type of media and see if this solves the problem.

The other problem that strikes me could be the position of the CD-ROM on your IDE controller or its setup. Is DMA turned on (if applicable)? Is it on the same controller as your HD (probably primary), while the CD-R/RW is on a controller by itself (secondary)? You may need to jocky the position of your devices/setup to get optimal performance if you are experiencing a throughput bottleneck. However, I would try another media type first as it is the easiest test to perform.

    Good Luck!

  3. This is what occurred:

    1. If I burn from my Creative CD-ROM to my Ricoh CD-R/RW, it'll produce glitches. These glitches occur only on my Creative drive; it doesn't occur on my Ricoh drive.

    2. If I burn using my Ricoh CD-R/RW as the reader and writer, it won't produce glitches. Even if I play them on my Creative drive, there'll be no glitches. So it's not the media.

The funny thing is, whether the glitches will occur or not will depend upon how I burn. Creative to Ricoh will cause errors. Ricoh to Ricoh will not cause errors. But the errors can only be seen with Creative.

    BTW, I'm using Clone.

  4. If the Creative Labs and the Ricoh are on the same channel, i.e. they are connected to the same IDE cable, you will have problems.
What I would suggest is copy the files to your hard drive, then burn that file.

  5. I did not realize that this was a problem copying discs...

I agree with networkswiz... You can do what he suggests or you can try to slow down your burns. You didn't say what speed you write your CD-R's, but try at 2X (or even 1X) to see if it resolves the problem.

    Good Luck!
