  1. Hey,

Took me a while but I finally figured out how to successfully burn svcds after many failed attempts. I'm using TMPEGenc to encode (with direct vob sub for subtitles), MPEG-VCR to cut into CD size segments and the latest version of Nero (Nero Ultra Edition Package One 6.3.0.0 ((Nero burning ROM ver 6.0..)) ). I use the wizard to burn the CD's instead of using burning rom because I find it saves me time. The problem I'm having is that, after analyzing the file, Nero sometimes says that the file is not proper SVCD format. This is weird b/c I always follow the same steps in encoding and splitting the files and sometimes it recognizes the files as SVCD format. Either way it burns o.k. but I don't want to have to wait another 5 hours for Nero to encode the file again before burning. I read in other posts that you can somehow turn this verification off, but I can't find the setting for it anywhere. If someone could tell me how to get around this it would be save me a lot of time...

Thanks and sorry for the lengthy post!

You cannot turn off standard compliance in nero express. You have to switch to the full version and then there is a tick box which you need to uncheck. I'd revisit TMPGEnc and get everything right from that side of things.

Better yet, what source are you using ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. Nero is full version...
I had to buy and enter a serial number or it would've expired in January. I think everything's right in TMPEG b/c everything plays fine before and after burned. My sources are .avi files, usually divx with mp3 audio but sometimes with ac3. I just don't understand why sometimes it recognizes it as SVCD and sometimes it wants to encode it even though I follow the same steps every time...
Where is the option to turn off the compliance check in the full version??

  4. What may be causing the problem is the fact that you're encoding to one big mpg file and then splitting the file up.

I think it's quite likely that the headers in the split files are messed up, and that's what's causing Nero to complain.

I'd use Source Range in TMPGEnc to split the file (e.g. find the mid point of the movie, and then make TMPGEnc create two files which will fit your 80min CDs).

I'd also use VCDEasy to author your SVCDs to bin/cue images, and use Nero just to burn those images to disc.

    cheers,
    mcdruid.
