I attempted to author a SVCD with menu and chapters. I used a 650mb SVCD compliant file created with TMPGEncPlus. Six chapters...thumbnails that highlight...10 second clips in each thumbnail for the chapters...a jpeg backgroung image for the menu...an 80 second mp3 for the background audio for the menu...life is good. Well, so it seemed.

Then the evil transcoding monster reared its ugly head. My resulting disc was 83mb and none of the features mentioned above worked properly when played in my Memorex 2027 DVD player.

Nero, why do you want to "transcode" everything? If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it!

With that off my chest, has anybody had any GOOD results with NVE when making SVCD's?
I said I'll be done in a minute. I meant a Microsoft minute.

It does ask you for the DVD or mpeg2 plugin, though, coz it asked me. Never mind, I installed the retail I had for 5.x and this seems to work. I only tried once to create a menu with thumbnails for a SVCD, when authoring from individual mpeg2 video clips (encoded with DVD2SVCD and CCE 2.50). From functionality point of view, it did work, it made each clip a chapter, properly accessed from the video. NVE ruined the video, though, by shifting the picture all to the left (at least this is how it plays in my Pioneer 535...) Argh
