  1. Is there is utility that allows me to say crunch this movie to fit on a 700Mb CD?

I have a number of DivX format files that are just a little too big for a single CD. I want to crunch them down, but keep them in the DivX format.

I know I can do this by playing with different settings in VirtualDub, but I would like it work out what frame rate, res etc to use to get the file to the right size, so I do not have to try a variety of settings to get it to fit. Which is tedious when you have a few files to do.

I do not care if it takes a very long time to run (because it has to run the different possibilities), just as long as it sorts its self out, rather than me having to do it.

If you are just storing use winrar to compress then burn as data cd's, or you could try CopytoDVD it has several options including CD. You could also try some of Kwag's(KVCD) or Sefy's templates here:

  3. the audio & video in a divx movie is already compressed to hell. you wont get it any smaller by compressing it.

your best bet is to take it in to virtual dub & cut out the credits (use the guides to the left).

or you could re-encode the audio to a lower bitrate or even a variable bitrate mp3.. you'll need to use nandub (a virtualdub mod).

you might even have to do both those things.
