I've got a Pioneer DV-C603 DVD pleer and it plays just perfect my VCD and SVCD on any type of CDR media. There is only one problem here. If you playing "home made" VCD or SVCD there is no play time indication (mins, sec) on the player. It says "PBC PLAY". This is important because this player has 5 CD tray, and can switch these CD automatically only if there is a "play time indication". And you can do other functions like search, etc.
I've found that VCD prepared by Philips VCD Toolkit shows time correctly.
Does anyone know how to make SVCD that shows time corretly on this player? I've tried diffent authoring tools but no luck yet...

Have you tried using the VCDImagerGUI (it converts a VCD and SVCD mpeg file into a bin image file which then can be burnt) the time always shows up correctly on VCD's/SVCD's made by this useful program. (P.S. It's available in the "tools" section of this website)

I've tried VCDImagerGUI, but that VCD didn't play on my unit. It starts, but after few secong the unit just hungs, and to bring it back I have to recycle power on it.
But, anyway, Philips VCD ToolKit 2.0 - works just great for me. There is a problem only with SVCD...

This sounds now more like a burner software problem. If I were you I'd download the SVCD example from this website and burn it. See if that works in your player. Then at least we know if its your machine or the way you made the files.

  5. Howabout pressing the forward button instead of play after loading your disc? This may turn off the PBC.
