  1. I have an xvid avi file that I am having a problem encoding.

The source file is perfect quality but when I encode it with TMPGenc the audio is out of synch.

Can anyone help with this please? It is an MPEG Layer 3 and 23 frames/second.

    Thanks

  2. I have seen before many similar problems, have you searched the forums for similar topics?

What I have seen in general as a solution is to extrat the audio from the avi file using virtualdub and then converting it to AC3 with BeSweet...

Some people recomend that you only encode the video with TMPGEnc and the audio as described above, then combine the two wen authoring your DVD

  3. What are you trying to encode it to with TMPGEnc? MPEG-1(VCD) or MPEG-2 (SVCD/DVD)?

If you're converting to (S)VCD, you don't want to convert to AC3 - but Pabs is right about splitting the audio off and dealing with it separately.

You can separate it with VirtualDub or GoldWave (easiest ways), and decompress it to a wav.

Then feed the wav into TMPGEnc as the audio source.

There have indeed been many many topics about this same problem - xVid encoded avis seem to be prone to A/V sync problems when you try to re-encode them.

If what we've suggested doesn't help, try searching the forum.

  4. I am trying to onvert it to MPEG 2 DVD and have used Virtual Dub to extract the audio.

I have tried looking for other topics but so far can't find the answer.

  6. Have you tried frameserving from VirtualDub into TMPGEnc?

    That sometimes works...

...or use DVD2SVCD - it can do avi -> DVD and several other format conversions other than the one the name suggests.

  7. I have found the way to resolve the problem was to follow the instructions to correct the "skew" using the latest virtual dub programme. The virtual dub programme I was using didn't show the vbr problem.

Now that I am using the latest virtual dub version and following the guide on the forum the audio is fine.

    Thanks for your help
