  2. Makes me sad, so many people read here, and so few post to help others. I've gotten some great help on this forum, so I really want to help give back! Everyone else should too.

Hmm, how to answer this. I think you didn't ask exactly what you meant to ask, but that's ok, we can muddle through A P3 500 is fast enough to do a capture IF you have everything else up to snuff. If your hard drive is fast enough, ATA100 7200RPM, AND your capture card is of good enough quality (sound slike it is), AND the software you use works well. After you capture, you'll convert the AVI to SVCD, which isn't real-time, and the P3 500 wont be very fast, but it will work. My P3 800EB using TMPGEnc with filters takes about 3 hours to convert 30 minutes of video to make VCDs (MPEG-1).
A lot of people in this forum (including myself) use VirtualDub for capturing, and TMPGEnc for converting, probably something about them being free or something (well, ok, they work pretty well too)

  3. Thanks for making a reply. With the ALL IN WOnder it does MPEG 2 so you do not have to capture in to AVI then back to MPEG 2

  4. AVI if you want to edit or tweak the capture.

Mpeg-2 if you just want to edit commercials out:
Flask >> frame server >> tmpgenc/lsx/cce >> tmpgenc merge or make chapters.

My capture system: p3-550 128meg 4gb scsi os driver, 20gb ata66 capture drive.

  5. I don't know if your computer is fast enough to capture mpeg2 with a AIW, my gut feeling is yes.....but I really don't know. Check on the ATI website, the info should be there someplace.

As for the mpeg2 capture, I have found that capturing first to avi and then using tmpg to convert to mpeg gives a better quality end product. However it takes a lot longer and if your using fat 32 (or 16) you have to work with the 4gb limit (,which can be worked around using something like audio dub or avi io.)
