  1. Do 80 min CDRs effect picture quality? I know that some stand alone players have trouble with 80 min CDRs (mine is a pioneer 343). It apparently has some thing to do with the spiral of written data being 'more tightly wound'. Can this be why my VCDs look better on my PC than on my stand-alone?

  2. wow, never heard of that, I use 80min. & 99min. CD-R's and play them in my APEX 660 and Toshiba 2050 with perfect quality, and that's VCD and SVCD's.
I am using a HP9100b Burner, I tried recently to switch to the HP9500B burner(faster 12x10x40) and had horrible results, switched back to the HP9100b no problems since.

  4. I havn't had any problems with the 90min discs yet. You just have to be careful how far your burner can go without errors. Mine is 89:57, so I know I have to target my bitrate slightly lower than I would for the full 1800mb.

  5. The problem with the 90/99/120min CDRs is largely due to the firmware limitations of your burning. Most CD-recorders max out at 89:30.

  7. Is there a website detailing the list of compatible recorders and players for the 99 minute cds?

I had some, but my cd writer only recognized it as 80minutes, and I'm not sure if my Apex ad600a (N5 rom) will be able to read it.

  8. 120 min CD-Rs are not standard CDs and cannot be used for VCDs (or audio CDs).
