  1. i use powerdvd 4 xp, has anyone ever noticed that despite the fact you make your dvds with certain commands (like after chapter 16 go back to the main menu), powerdvd doesn't seem to follow them and continues to play the disc regardless of what you have specified when you authored?

i also have 2 other dvd players (software for the pc i mean). The disc works the way they are supposed to, so i know it is a problem with powerdvd (and that sucks as most people i know use powerdvd, for those that use their pcs to play dvds in general)

I can give you 3 examples that i have had with it.

Firstly my dvds are authored with dvd maestro
here is what powerdvd has disobeyed

    1. menu loop: on a few dvds i have the main menu as live action and i set it to loop, with the buttons appearing after 2 seconds. Powerdvd instead after it plays once, goes right to the next menu screen. However if i set the buttons to play(appear) at exactly time 0:00:00 it works fine

    2. disobeys subtitle display. i had some dvds set so the subs will not display once you play it, you would have to turn them on (i had this set in the menu and on the properties tab). Power dvd displayed them anyway

    3. chapter commands. i have a clip now that i did not want to edit, so at the end of chapter 16 and before chapter 17 i tell it to go back to the main menu. Powerdvd ignores this and goes to the next chapter.

these are a few things. Just curious if i was alone on this or if anyone else has had this problem with powerdvd. The dvds also work completely fine on set top players

  2. I had a situation where PowerDVD 4 would not play DVD disc burns/images made by Nero 6, whereas other software programs (WinDVD etc.) and my standalone DVD player would.

For my home authored DVDs with Maestro, PowerDVD seemed fine, but then again I wasn't doing such complicated features.

I upgraded to PowerDVD 5 and it now recognizes Nero 6 burns, but I get occasional slight random color pixilation patches with my SVCD playback, which isn't there with my standalone player or with WinDVD.

I must say, as much as I want to like PowerDVD better, WinDVD 4 is consistently more reliable.

  3. PowerDVD sucks...

I have had NO luck watching any DVD's created on my LG GSA-4040B burner using PowerDvd. Usually after 50 mins or so I get pixelation errors and then the error message (disk is dirty or may have been damaged so as to inhibit play). I can play these disks on set top players and also on WinDVD using the same hardware. Also, PowerDVD doesnt seem to like Emtec DVD's either.

I like the fact that PowerDVD 5 loads much faster than WINDVD but it seems to have a lot of bugs or bothersome features. It sometimes tells me inconsistently that my region 1 DVD's are not valid for my region. My region settings are ok so that's not the problem. It also says that some of my backups which I ripped as region free cannot be played because they are not region 1. The worse part is that if I ignore the message and keep hitting play it often starts up.

If they keep adding such useless checks they will not sell too many retail copies of their software. Mine came bundled with my writer so I guess we pay for it in the package price.
