  1. I am tring to create a menu in I-Author version 1.0

I have saved my menu backgroud as a BMP file.

When I try to add the BMP file in I-Author ( step 4) it reports back with a "Invalid image file dimesion" error.

    I have resized the BMP to 400 x 304, 640 X 480, 480 x 576 & 720 x 576.
But I still get the same error when trying to add the background BMP.

The cd does play but the menu is not the correct size.

I use Paint Shop Pro to resize the file and Tmpgenc version 12j to convert AVI files.

Any help PLEASE on the correct size / format of the BMP.

PS thanks to the guys who run this forum it has been an excellent source of information over the past 6 weeks !!! many very late nights trying to convert video from my sony tvr120 camcorder to SVCD & XSVCD's to play on my OPTIM player.
Thanks again to everyone who has replied to all of the posts in the forum.

Still picture resolutions for svcds are 480x480 or 704x480 for ntsc televisions and 480x576 or 705x576 for pal televisions. If your in either the US or Jap then you use ntsc. If this is the case I recommend using 704x480, it looks much nicer than 480x480.

If you encoded your video in 480x480 (ntsc standard)then none of those demensions you listed are correct. The only one that is a supported res is 480x576 but thats for pal.

I have heard people claim that even at compliant resolutions I-Author still complains. The only solution was to re-install the program.

  3. OK Adam,
I will try now with 480 x 576, will let you know if it works.

PS It is a pal SVCD and I have 3 mpeg tracks, I think I encoded the 3 tracks at different bit rates.

Thanks for you help..... back soon

  4. Adam,

That was it, working no problem now .

When I was doing the resize in paint shop I reversed it (576x480) because the BMP looked to long & thin.

480x576 working MEGA thanks for you help dude.

Yeah don't worry about how it looks on the pc, when it gets played back it will be stretched to its proper size.

  6. Adam,

Menu working ok BUT !!! the video on the video track jumps all over... the mpeg was encoded at a bit rate of about 4 megs.

    Does I-Author only do vcd & svcd's ?
