  1. I have an SVCD that is compliant, however my DVD player like many others won't sync when the video framerate goes above 2400. So, I load my SVCD into TMPG, set all the settings exactly like the original SVCD except for "max bitrate" which I set to 2400. It encodes and works fine. (unrelated question, if I load an SVCD with 224kbps audio and convert to an SVCD with 224kbps audio, does the audio remain untouched in TMPG, or does it re-encode it. should i encode video only and multiplex the new video with the original audio?)

Anyhow, I was wondering if there was some quick and dirty way to just re-encode all frames that are >2400 to 2400, without re-encoding the entire file?

As far as I know, no such tool exists.

Regarding the audio you should demux the original audio and multiplex it with the new video unless you want to also lower the audio bitrate.

Just a suggestion, but your player may be choking on the 'total' bitrate (video + audio), not just the video bitrate. Try demuxing your audio, and resampling it at a lower bitrate (try 160, or 128kbps). That will lower your total bitrate, and may help you without the need to re-encode.

  5. Its not really choking, just desyncing after it plays for awhile. If, while watching as it desyncs, i fast forward a bit then go back a bit, it resyncs itself. Weird. And, downsampling the SVCD (audio and video together, max video bitrate = 2400) didn't fix my problem.

Anyhow, I tried de-muxing audio, converting, then demuxing the video from my new SVCD and muxing that with the original audio and it totally craped out. (off topic, why does TMPGenc force me to encode video+audio when i load up a template?) I'm gonna try using a different program to join the audio and video.

I'm also looking through the DVD Players section. I'm probably going to just replace this DVD player with one that will at least play compliant SVCDs, hopefully one that will play many non-compliant ones as well.

Maybe the template was set to encode both video and audio. Use the unlock template in TMPGEnc to make it possible to change every setting. I never use templates myself because I want to know each setting is what I need.

To encode video separately just check elementary stream video as encoding option.

What DVD-player do you use? I had a smiliar problem with my Nintaus 9901 but after proper multiplexing with bbmpeg instead of tmpgenc it solved my problems. Check out the DVD player reports. Here's a quote from a user report:

"some not so cool stuff is:
¤ this player is a bitch about sync unless u do your muxing properly, bbmpeg with 230ms+ startup delays for vid/sound is a good rule, this makes any svcd movie playback in PERFECT sync.

If you are lazy and dont wanna bother with the above method, or have an svcd from some other sloppy mofo you can get sync manualy on playback by rewinding/forwarding and then pressing play. :> "

I used to experience that myself. I don't do many SVCD's of late, but I never did find the cause. It was a slightly nagging problem, easily fixed by hitting rewind for a fraction of a second, and then 'play' again. Not a major problem, so I didn't devote much time to it. I don't believe that it is bitrate related though. My player supports xCD, with pretty high bitrates, and the problem disc's I experienced it on, were all strictly to the standard (I have no need of xCD's). Bitrate couldn't be the issue on mine.

Not much help, but it's a start.

Also if I enable the SVCD menu option in Nero and make a menu then I alsways get out of synch SVCD. Some people can solve the problem by using VCDEasy instead of burning with Nero or burn without menu.
