5 drives, 495 gig total, 160 down to 45 gigs individually, main machine, 365 gigs, number 2 machine, 160, 120, 80, 20, so 400 gigs, only wish I hadn't split them so fine, I'm up to Drive S on 1 and Drive T on the other. Confusing. Doesn't take long to run ScanDisk on any one of them, though

Just enough. 120GB.

Ordered a 200gb hard drive, but they screwed up the order, I havne't reordered yet. So for now I'm stuck at a sad 160gb over 2 hard drives.

100GB in Total, a 20GB and an 80GB. Need some more space, but can't put anything in until I get a PCI-IDE controller.

Hoyboy,
Keep your eyes open for a sale, or even a flat out deal where they have a drive that includes an ATA card. They run about 50 bucks separately, so you can consider it a 50 buck discount if you do find one.
Where the hell were you when I was bragging about the 160's with an ATA card a month ago, 70 USD after rebate.
Man, I wish a few more people had seen that.
Cheers,
George -
160, between a 40Gig and 120Gig. I want to buy at least one more 120 drive, but I need to add a controller card, too. I might just wait it out until I revamp this computer.
If I can stumble across a good sale or bundled hard drive/card combo I might pick one up, though. CompUSA was selling a 100Gig Maxtor with an IDE card about a year ago for about $120. I should have bought one then, but I didn't think I would need the space. -
mrtristan,
Hah,
I didn't think I'd need the space. Just like when we thought 8 meg was plenty of RAM.
Today, it looks like we'll NEVER have enough space.
If I could delete, mebbe I could get along with less, but, damn, man, it's just so damn cheap.
It might still be possible to find the 160m with the ATA card. Or bigger. -
Heh. I remember when my hard drive crashed with my first generation PowerPC. It was a 66Mhz speed demon and it came with a 100MB hard drive. I took it in to be fixed, but the smallest replacement drive that was being manufactured at the time was 500Megs.
Now, I have more RAM than that and my graphics card is more sophisticated than that whole computer. That was only 7 years ago. It's amazing how fast technology continues to change. Things are supposed to be slowing down as we reach the supposed physical limits to our current technologies, but it doens't seem that way.
My son's first computer will probably eat the Matrix for lunch and then some. -
3 x 120GB, 1 x 40GBand 1 x 30GB
so 430 GB in total. -

2 x 120Gb.
Meets my needs at the moment.Just what is this reality thing anyway? -
Just did some quick research... its like a geek dream from years of yore come true. If you have about $1300 you can put 1 terabyte into an external firewire enclosure (can't remember if its normal firewire or 800) thats designed to raid them internally. A portable terabyte in a box!

How did I know this was going to be some zany attempt to make something innocent sound dirty when I saw the thread?
Anyway mine is a whole 8GB. In a couple of weeks it will be 120GB though. -
It's not the size that counts, it's how you use it!
40 + 80What's that burning smell? -

for my main video system, 3x80gb, so 240Gb. Although I'm going to pull one of the 80's, replace it with a 120, put the 80 in my other system and pull a 40 out, then put that into the video system.
so in about a week it's going to be 120 / 80 / 80 / 40, or 320Gb.
or should I get a faster processor instead of the 120.... hmmm....- housepig

hmm... well if you count it as 1,000,000,000s of bytes
185.2 + 40 + 10.3 = 235.5gb in one..
that half is very important, as it's as much storage as was in our first family desktop PC, and also my first "own", sadly short lived laptop.
thought the 185 would hold all my mp3s and videos, boy was that optimistic. thinking of swapping out the 10, and using the final IDE cable & power plug (out of 6 each) to hold a pair of 250's when i can afford it!!

this internet machine, 30gb, and riddled with bad sectors from a lifetime of never being defragged (and p2p overload) until i'm around and think to do it... wears out the heads, they kiss the surface, and suddenly, i'm looking around to see whether you can still get 30gb replacements for a straight swap..... let that serve as a warning to you all. maybe i'll use it as an excuse to swap that 40 for an 80 and give this one a "free" 10gb upgrade.
oldest laptop, 500mb (in a mono, 33mhz 486 SL!!), and plenty left after being filled with anything that could be useful on that machine. too bad the screen and drive power circuits went phut.
"newer" laptop, was also 500, up to 2gb with a donated drive.... too bad the caddy cable broke
and in two years time, they'll be up to 512gb..-= She sez there's ants in the carpet, dirty little monsters! =-
Back after a long time away, mainly because I now need to start making up vidcapped DVDRs for work and I haven't a clue where to start any more! -
I have sorta settled in to a system on all the AMD's running on MSI boards with RAID on dual 120GBs, seems perfect for my use.
I have to agree with indolika it's all about RAID BABY!!!!(;-{> Dd

120+80+200 Firewire Maxtor so 400gb total
-
20gb (windows/applications)
80gb (movies/music)
80gb (where all the work gets done)
30gb (transport drive)
40gb (in another computer)
250gb total..
i still feel like i need more.. if i were going to buy more drive space, i would probably just get two 160gb harddrives and move the two 80gb harddrives to the other computer.. i prefer having 2 seperate drives as opposed to one large drive. -
40Gb IBM Deskstar (OS)
1x120Gb IBM Deskstar (capture)
1x120Gb IBM Deskstar (editing)
1x120Gb IBM Deskstar (storage)
Total = 400Gb
Got room for 2 more drives but I very rarely use up what I have at the moment so I'll wait for a sale.Regards,
