I just finished my first tmpgnc conversion (remember I'm green) and don't see that my file went where it said it would on the output directory. I thought it would save automatically. If I didn't save it -- did I loose my 18 hours worth of conversion????????????? Would it be in some kind of temp file?

This might sound crazy but, load everything up again and start encoding again. You should get a message saying the file already exists, overwrite? The file path can be found doing that.

I know where it should go, but I don't see any .mpg files there when I look. I didn't personally save the file, thinking the program automatically moved the file to the directory. Did I loose my file?

When you click Browse on the Output, do you get a Save As box? That's where the file should be. It could be possible that the .mpg extension was missing. That would explain not finding a media file. So, click Browse on the Output again and when you get the Save As box there is a small drop-down with *.mpeg, *.mpg (something like that.) Click the down button and select All Files *.* and see if you can find the file.
Beyond that, I don't know unless there was an error in the encoding process that didn't allow the file to be saved. I guess you would know about any errors after spending 18 hours on it. -
Hey Headbanger (I'm back from that era!
)
When I click browse, it does go to a save as box. When I click save with the type as .mpg, it says it already exists and asks if I want to replace it. Of course I say no. (You are saying then, that tmpgnc will auto save it for me?) However, I do not see any extensions on the files that it's showing in the box. Do you think my conversion file is there? How do I pick which one.
You've been helpful. Thank you. -
If it asks if you want to replace, then it IS there. Just check the top of the Save As box to see where it is on your PC. If it took 18 hours, by no means should you try to save it again. [/b]

@jakers,
ARE THERE ANY FILES IN THE TARGET DIRECTORY???
i assume there are and you're just looking for a file w/ .mpg extension.
it seems your windows explorer isn't showing any file extensions. you need to goto explorer options and disable "hide file extensions for known file types"
otherwise, do you even remember the name of the file you saved??? don't worry about the extension... -
Headbanger / Poppyhead~
You guys are awesome. I unhid the extensions and I DO have a .mpg file! Yeah! Hoorah! GREAT!
Now, I think the next step is to follow the guide on how to burn and author the file if I want a dvd?
