  1. When I load a blank 99 min CD-R Nero reports the disk as being 80 min, not 90 or 99 min. My burner can burn up to 89 minutes, but not sure how to tell Nero to burn this long.

I'm not sure, but it could have to do with your Nero version. Since the updated 5.5.2.3 version, Nero introduced the extra timebar that goes up to 100mins.

Maybe someone with version 5.0 has had success, otherwise you'll have to update your software.

  3. A blank 99 minute disc will always be reported as 80 minutes because that's the biggest size that can be recorded in the ATIP. After the disc is recorded, it'll show as the right size in a player.

The problem, of course, is to record the disc. Go to Nero's options and click the Advanced tab. There you can enable "overburn" and enter the size of a disc beyond 80 minutes. Once this is enabled, Nero will warn you that the disc doesn't appear big enough (due to the ATIP limitation) but it will permit you to click "Overburn anyway" or something like that.

Can't quite agree with that, or it's my CD-Writer i.e. firmware. If I put in a non burnt 90+ CD-R in my drive and press on "I" in Nero for "Display CD Information" it gives me back the correct recording availability as 92:57:74 = 817MB.

I presume you are in the US. I get mine in the UK, so I doubt the website address would help you.

You could try finding out who sells RITEK also known as MIRROR CD-R's. They are the manufactorer of these CD-R's.

  7. 90-minute and 99-minute discs are available from several sources. Choose one that's convenient for where you live:

    http://www.disc4you.com/start.html
    http://store.yahoo.com/yesbuy/cd-r.html
    http://americal.com/

    aldus4,

That's definitely "new" information! The ATIP limitation was still universal the last time I'd checked, so I'm curious if manufacturers have quietly agreed upon some sort of extension. Just for fun, you might see whether the CDR-Identifier program comes up with the same result. (It reads the ATIP.)

    It's at http://www.gum.de/zaehler.cgi

  11. I'm on a posting frenzy. Myself and others have found 99min. CDR's at our local CompUSA stores. I picked up 16 for $9.99. They are not listed on their website however.

here's info from "That's Write!" 90min CDR with
    Plextor 16/10/40 drive:

    ATIP: 97m 28s 12f
    Disc Manufacturer: Gigastorage Corp.
Recording layer: Dye (Long strategy, e.g. Cyanine, Azo etc)
    Media type: CD-Recordable
    Nominal Capasity: 702.83mb (79m 59s 74f/LBA 359849)

So should i be able to burn over 90min with this like the ATIP info suggests? 97min? I've managed to burn around 90min and not much extra.

    C.K.

    @estariol

If you are purchaseing 25 (they come in packs of 25) I suggest

    http://www.cd-rmedia.co.uk/mirror90mins.htm
    (£9.50 + £5.95P&P)

if you want to purchase more, you'll find that

    https://yellow.srv2.com/~theprice/index2.htm
    (£10.00 + one time charge of £6.00P&P)

are cheaper, cause they don't charge as much for the postage and packaging.
