I have followed the guide right through to creating an MPG file with TMPGenc Pro (Latest version)

But NERO 6 is insisting on Re-Encoding it for me........with no option not to

What is the most likely reason

    Thanks

  2. There wasn't a box to turn off 'check compilaint(sp)' in Nero? Is it Nero or Nero Express?

You might want to consider authoring/burning your SVCDs with a different program. I would recommend VCD Easy (freeware) which you can d/load either here or at http://www.doom9.org

It's a GUI for VCDImager and then burns with CDRDAO. It's also a much better authoring program than nero (chapters, PBC, menus, etc).

Just what I thought, only problem is the MPG is about 900Mb but when NERO calcualted it, it would still fit on a standard CD

But VCD easy declared it was too big and needed to be split

If you have a solution to this I will most certainly use VCDEasy

    Thanks

  4. What it sounds like is that Nero knows the file is to big and in order for it to fit the file on one disc it is trying to re-encode the file(possibly by lowering the bitrate) to alow the video to fit to the disc.

If you don't want to lower the bitrate at all, then you'll have to split the file and burn to 2 discs.

I think I found the reason

I had set the Audio rate very jigh, to get a better quality, this most likely was not VCD compliant; only guessing really

Changed the Audio to 128 (default) and no complaints from Nero.
The only thing is the video is a bit blocky, mostly on Balck & White with sky or large blocks of the same colour

and I read somewhere not to burn DISK AT ONCE with nero for VCD, but don't know why, so I burnt with track at once.

One MPG is 944MB the other is 742MB Nero still complains about the 944MB even though it was done with the same settings and should only be 89 Minutes which I thought would fit on a VCD.....Am I assuming something wrong here ????

    Thanks

The size of the mpeg is determined by the length of the clip in minutes and the bitrate. Assuming the same settings, one of your files has more minutes than the other. A 994 MB file will not fit on a standard CD, either split it, encode at a lower rate or try a 99 min CD if you can get one.

  7. If it is 89 minutes and 944Mb then it is not a standard VCD compliant mpeg. It sould be around 890mb. You said you increased the audio bitrate this is why the file is larger and non compliant.

I agree, use VCDEasy to create VCD/SVCD, its much better than Nero, and I use Nero for virtually everything from DVD, MP3, music CD's, etc, etc

But, "I" use VCDEasy for VCD's, and CDRWin for game images to burn onto CD, more software to use, but never, ever had a problem with any of them that gets used for what "my" requirements are

  9. Guys, I think here we deal with MVCD, not the regular VCD (MPEG).
    ukcalibrauk, am I right?

  10. I have heard of XVCD (any non compliant VCD), but what is MVCD

  12. So MVCD is similar to KVCD, which are both in fact XVCD.

  13. More or less, but I would recommend KVCD over MVCD because I just like the quality of KVCD better.....:P
