I'm trying to burn a VCD loaded with still pics (JPEG) to display as a slideshow on my DVD player. However, Nero prevents me from burning more than 99 images, regardless of the remaining capacity of the CD. Is there any way to bypass this limitation?

    Thanks.

  2. My understanding is you are stuck with the 99 limit trying to use Nero or Roxio directly. What I do is use my video editor Pinnacle's Studio 8 to create as long a slideshow as I want. I simply go to the photo option and open any file with photos and drop them into the storyboard. You can add music, a must in my opinion, and add titles transitions etc. Then you simply create a VCD. Then open Nero and create a VCD, add your VCD you created in Studio (it is an mpg) and you are done. Of course you can play with the menus in Nero to further customize your project. It is pretty easy.

    Good luck

This is the standard limitation for videos and images on a vcd. The only way to do this is make a non-compliant vcd (xvcd) and hope that it is compatible with your dvd player.
    pixel,
I used Vcdeasy to add 136 pictures to a VCD (at least what Vcdeasy called a VCD 2.0). I did this by taking the original tiff files and creating mpeg files using the mpeg tools in vcdeasy. This worked great but I could not add music. Are you saying that doing this creates a non-compliant VCD? I ask because the resulting VCD played in 3 out of 4 players I tried.

I tried to use Premere 6.0 to create a video stream and add music and then burn a VCD. I used tsunami to encode to VCD standard then burn. However, the quality of each picture was awful but the music was great. What would I need to do the the tiff files before I import them into the editor. Resize them to some multiple of 352x240 or what? Or will this ever work?

  6. I'm not sure where this 99 limit comes from. It may apply to chapters, but it definately doesn't apply to images. It's my understanding that the VCD spec allows for 1980 Segment Play Items.

I've put almost 800 still images on a VCD using Pinnacle Expression. They were categorized into 50 or so chapters. There was plenty of space left. I'm betting you could hit the 1980 mark and still not fill the disk.

As another note, I used Expresssion's high resolution VCD mode for slideshow stills. They look just as good as any DVD slideshow I've done. Sweet.
    cheers!

  7. I'm sorry, I had just read somewhere else that Nero only lets you put 99 images or videos on a vcd. I withdraw what I said in that post above as this is what I believed would fix the problem, but it seems other people have much better ways to do it, so I have edited out my last post so I don't confuse or upset anyone else.
