My requirements
1.at least 16x
2.value for money aka cheap,which means high end brands like Plextor are out
3.ability to overburn,800mb,900mb?
4.ability to read media that are of inferior quality

Buy a LITE-ON 24x10x40 they are really cheap like 150 or less plus they have burn-proof so that u dont have any probs burnign cds. i have a 12x10x32 lite-on it works great no probs . for the cheapest price check out http://www.pricewatch.com . UPDATE I FOUND IT HERE FOR 130 BUCKS

well,I heard some good things bout the iomega 24x CDRW
some claim that it is a plextor OEM -
Plextor is not that expensive.
In fact I just got a Retail Plextor 16/10/40 for $160 + $8 shipping from http://www.newegg.com.
Plextor is offering a $20 rebate right now if you buy a retail package instead of a OEM packaged one.
So this brings the total down to $148 -- that's reasonable for a high-end drive like a Plextor.
