  1. Currently my MSI Rom refuses to play any DVDR-s. I have tried several makes of DVD media, currently using Ritek Golds. I have to keep setting regions. I have resit it over 20 times now oddly enough. I don't have any region free software on this computer that I am aware of. It's finally pissed me off. By the way everything plays in my MSI DVD burner. Can anyone recommend a DVD Rom with the highest DVD read time? Any help is appreciated. They are inexpensive so I am looking for the best that will not give me any problems.

  2. I have been fearlessly searching for reviews and opinions and they seem to be hard to find. Really looking at the Toshibas ie the sdm1502-TA but the same applys. The manufacturer specs boosts capabilities to read all makes of CD media but makes no mention of which DVD media. It's the same for the other makes. Does anybody else have problems getting their Roms to read DVDR-'s? Thanks.

you should never have to change the region code on your drive at all. If I remember, dvdshrink and dvddecrypter will read discs from other regions and make the copied movie region free if you choose. I said the other day to change the region code but you shouldn't have to.

Lite On's will rip DVD-R upto 8.5x, Toshiba (M1712) with a speed hack will rip DVD-R upto 16+x.

The Toshiba is ~$10 more than the lite on at newegg.

Speed hack is at www.rpc1.org .

  5. Went to order the Toshiba DVD Rom. I was disappointed that so far I can only find them in biege. What a disgusting color Checked out the hack and willing to try the M1712 but the biege will burn my eyes out. Especially in my ThermalTake case. My kingdom for a silver or black bezeled Toshiba. Can anybody direct me? Thanks.

http://www.compuvest.com/Description.jsp?ItemID=61577 not sure if it's "silver", but the model number is denoted by an "S". Email them to find out. The other toshiba model they have isn't denoted with an "S", but one is retail and one is OEM.
