  1. hey gang, Im a big time newbie when it comes to video editing and stuff so I appologize if this is trivial.

Im trying to use adobe premier to make a video using still images and bits of video off the net (nothing is being captured off a video camera or anything). Well Im wanting to use one of the "dissolve" transitions, and for some reason its just not working. Im taking the images that I want to use, placing them into the timeline, and then putting the transition into the transition bar on the timeline. After doing that, I preview the video in the monitor and I get a little white "X" on the upper left hand side of the screen, and no transistion. I attempted to use the "default transistion" but everytime I click on the button, it doesnt do anything.

Once again, I appologieze for the simplicity of the question, but if someone can help me out on what Im doing wrong, I would appreciate it.

  3. Hit the enter key to render the timeline and you
    should see your effect.

Yes, make sure that the project has been saved, and then you are allowed to Render the Work Area. Make sure that you have selected the work area to envelope the whole project, or atleast the area that you want to preview. One way to do it is so zoom out until you see the whole project from beginning frame to the last clip's ending frame, then double-clicking the little bar where the work area indicator goes. This will expand it to the ends of the screen. Then you press Enter, and it will render the entire project, and play it back as soon as it finishes rendering it. Rendering is the only way that Premiere will ever show you what you've done to your video, besides actual cuts and speed changes.

  5. I don't think thats true...if you hold down the alt key, and rub the mouse pointer along the time-scale of the time line you can preview over the transition. (It doesn't work if you are dragging the start point marker with it tho)...
