ok very confused atm so i have afew questions....
has anyone tries burning vcds on discs larger than the standard 700mb? it seems that all software programs only allow the use of 700mb discs which seems very dumb to me???
1. Are there any vcd burners that accept iso images & use 800mb+ discs?
ok, ive created a vcd with menus & chapters using ulead dvd workshop. As the project was larger than 700mb it was unable to burn to cd. I saved it as a disc image, 875mb as a .ixa file.
I used isobuster to convert it into an .iso file, 760mb. Now throughout this process, the file structure hasnt changed, its still in what appears to be vcd format, so i thought that was ok...
so using nero in vcd mode tried to burn it but it created an unreadable disc. Ive also tried with BIN/CUE files:-
Select BURN IMAGE Browse to where the BIN/CUE file is located Select the CUE file & Burn
2. Has anyone used an external disc image & burned a successful vcd? if so what options/settings are required?
also points to note out, i believe vcds are in mode2/form2 format. This file is: mode1/2048 sectors.
3. what should the setting be? I can change it to:
mode 1/2048 or 2352 or convert to mode 2
if in mode 2 then either 2336 or 2352
I have previously been able to burn a vcd using these 800mb cd by creating it direct from nero without menus so i know my software/hardware accepts them. Any ideas?![]()

DVDWS is restricted when it comes to VCD authoring. It's only advantage is the ease of making a graphical menu. The menu will not operate correctly, as the next/previous keys and number keys will not work when the VCD is playing, without returning to the menu. You also cannot burn to 800MB discs using the built-in burning engine.
To overcome this I use the following method:
1) Use DVDWS to create the graphical menu
2) Preferences->General->Title Safe area margin - set it to 0
3) Ensure screen res is set to 1280X1024
4) Hit PrintScreen key
5) Open your favourite Image editor and paste image. Crop to get only the menu part of the image and resize to 768X576
6) Save as Menu.jpg in your working directory
7) Close DVDWS, you do not need it any more, and open VCDEasy
8) Select Tools->MPEG Stills, browse for your Menu.jpg, Hit "Generate" This will produce an MPEG still image of your menu
9) Go back to (s)VCD button and load in your menu.MPG and your MPEG file(s)
10) Use the Chapter ind Interactiviy buttons to create chapters and set navigation rules
11) Hit "Go" to create a BIN/CUE file and burn with your favourite app, e.g Nero -
thats great thanks for that, will give it a go. Ive looked at vcdeasy & i couldnt work it out but i'll give it another try. That is an idea because i liked one of the menu templates from UMF & wondered how to extract it.
so the iso image that i got from it is not in the same form as other iso images? is this problem just with ulead or does burning other iso images in vcd format from other programs burn ok as a vcd? -
I regularly burn greater than 700mb on 90/99 min discs. I use either vcdeasy (for vcd/svcd) or nero for data, or again for svcd. The only fault I have found is that nero does not really "acknowledge" the extra capacity on 90/99 min discs. If you want to do a multi-session disc this will only work up to the standard 80 min mark any burning beyond that has to be in disc_at_once mode, its a bit complicated to explain and it very, very rarely comes into play. vcdeasy isnt very hard and is an excellent program.

RabidDog it's not that hard to explain.....
Start NERO up, goto FILE/PREFERENCES, look in the General window that will popup for the red marker, in that change the min so that it says 85.
Also in the same window, UNCHECK the "CHECK FOR CORRECT DISC FORMAT BEFORE BURNING".
Now click on the EXPERTS FEATURES TAB, in there CHECK Enable Overburn and in the Maximum CD Length window put the time to look like this.....> 99 : 59 : 00, then just click OK and shutdown Nero.
Also make sure you select DISC-AT-ONCE when recording but i suspect that it will be selected already.
Nero should now Burn onto 90/99mins CDR's without any hassle.
One last thing krazymuppet just make sure your burner is capable of overburning to these types of CDR's.I Have Always Been Here

oh yeah ive had no problems burning cdr90s in nero even vcds, all that is fine. ive been using these other programs because of their nice menu templates & easy to use, designed for dumb-asses like me
though these programs cant burn over 700mb which is why im having this problem.
ok ive been looking at vcdeasy, ive done me menu mpeg still, added them & my video files in. Im now looking at the chapters & interactivity but everything is greyed out -
Another thing to think about is that some CD burners just cant burn these disks to the full amount. Which might explain the errors. Over 700mb disks are not standard.

woohoo i think ive sussed it

though the numeric key scene selection needs sorting out but on the whole, i can view the menus & videos so its all looking good. thanks guys
another thing, any idea how i can get the menu template pics out of UMF2 so i can use it in UDWS? -
WOOHOO
Its all working! 8)
All i need now is an audio track playing during the menus. Can this be done?
