  1. Hello,
I've converted an ASF file to AVI with ASFtools and now i'm looking to convert the avi file to mpeg with mainconcept. the original file is 320x240 and I figured i'd convert the mpeg to be 352x240 (using VBR and mpeg audio 224/k). when I go to convert the file an error message comes up saying
"V122:Invalid video progressive sequence(0)/vertical size(240) combination for DVD, progressive sequence should be 1"

changing the sequence number to 1 in the advanced video tab does not seem to stay. after I "OK" out of the settings it sets it back to 0.

I can convert it when I leave the output at 720x480, but figured that having the size more closely match the input size I may be able produce a better looking output file.

any insight as to why i'm getting this error and how I can correct it? should I even bother with using a resolution size different than 720x480? I know you can since it is a compliant size, but will i gain anything from it?

    thanks for any help! marc

mainconcept encoder can not resize ..

though - instead of using the dvd template use the mpeg2 template as a startng point and enter your settings ..

  3. thanks. great suggestion and I'll definitely try that!
although, i have converted a PAL SVCD sized mpeg to an NTSC DVD mpeg, so that was 480x576 to 720x480 and that worked perfect.

  4. just did a small test and it kicked in the conversion no problem. thanks!
about the bottom tenth of the video was a green bar though?
where would that come from? i've seen a little distortion on the very top/bottom before when doing an encode with other apps, but that stuff is masked when viewing on the tv, but this green bar is pretty large in comparison and would end up viewable.

anyone have a preference for converting AVI to MPEG? other than tmpgenc?
    thanks again

i kinda think main concept doesnt do resizing (ok - maybe im wrong - but i dont think so) ..

what you are seeing is the area differeance between your source and target size ..

before you went the other way .. encoded something smaller - so it just cut it off ..

Invalid video progressive sequence(0)/vertical size(240) combination for DVD, progressive sequence should be 1
This means MC expects the video to be progressive when the resolution is nnnX240, instead you had it set for interlaced. This can be changed in the advanced video settings. In the right hand window under the General tree, there's a value for progressive sequence. 0 = interlaced, and 1 = progressive.

MainConcept resizes just fine, but it doesn't letter box, it makes the video fill the whole picture. If you have a video 640x336 instead of letter boxing to 720x336 with borders, the whole movie would fill in all 480 lines.

If your using mpeg2, you should resize to 352x480. Or use mpeg1 with 352x240. Resizing from 320x240 to 720x480 will look like crap, and take longer than it should.

You can also use avisynth with Main Concept if you disable MC's directshow import filter.
