  1. I am looking for a capture card to replace the Xcapture that I have now. I will be sending video from my Directv Satellite receiver via s-video.

I have several questions to ask.

    1) Is this a capture card itself or just a analog to digital convertor? In the manual it stats to connect to the capture card so this is why I am asking.

    2) How does this connect to the computer (by USB)?

    3) How do you get the audio to capture?

    4) Do you have to connect the L/R or will it pick it up thru the computer? Also does it accept or pass thru DD or PCM?

    4) What additional software is needed to get a capture?

I have been reading everything I could find out about this but have not been able to get the answers to the above question. I do not mind paying additional $$ if the product will do what I want it to do.

Did you consider going to the Canopus site and looking it up there?

Just throw 3 w's in front and a .com behind and your almost there.

Click the products tab.....digital video converters...okay you can take it from here...everything you want to know about the ADVC 100.

    regards

  3. Yes I did and that is why I am asking these questions now. The site (i.e) says several times to connect the Canopus ADVC100 to a capture card. I even read the PDF manual.

So will this do captures by itself?

  4. 1) The ADVC-100 is a DV Transcoder that converts to and from DV. It needs to connect to an OHCI Compliant FireWire card like the PYRO card. If you needed to call something a capture card, the ADVC-100 would be the capture card in your setup (technically, you're FireWire card is a simple I/O card and transfers the video rather than capturing it).

    2) Everything is captured through FireWire (1394), that's the beauty of DV Transcoder solutions like the ADVC-100 or ADS PYRO AV Link...

    3) The audio captures by default...

    4) You have to connect the left & right audio, your sound will be DV Encoded and in stereo

2nd 4) Any NLE or simple capture App should be able to handle the DV Stream

  6. I have similar question. I want to get a ADVC100, but I heard that it has compatible issues with some 1394 card using TI's chip. I checked canopus website, but the link does not work.

    Anybody has an idea?
what 1394 card do all of you use with ADVC100?
