I recently downloaded a VDub mod that would supposedly let you actually edit MPEG1 and MPEG2 (not just open/decode).

    According to the README:

"Create and edit an SVCD with Virtual Dub? AVI, MPEG-1, and MPEG-2 decode/encode
is possible with this modified version of VirtualDub 1.5.1.

I found this modified a version of Virtual Dub (V1.5.1w/mods) a forum several days ago -works without flaw for my purposes including use of the filters included here. I'm sure other filters will work, but, haven't tried them all.

Nothing special required for installation, identical to the 'official' version

All credit goes to Avery Lee and an "unknown" programmer who deserves the credit for this version. My sincere thanks to both."

Unfortunately I have lost the executable and am trying to track down another copy. Does anyone know anything about this VDub mod? Does it work, and where can I get it?

    TheInformer,

I tried the version you pointed to. Although it does let me open MPEG2 (and even the original VDUB would let me open MPEG1), I cannot EDIT. That is, I cannot save out a MPEG file after deleting frames.

If I open an MPEG, and then set Video and Audio to "Direct Stream Copy", and then do save....I get an error.

I really like the editing interface of VDub, that is why I was hoping to be able to edit MPEG in Vdub.

  4. I'm not sure if this will help but there is a version of virtualdub called VirtualDubMpg2. It is available at www.divx-digest.com in the software section under editing. Just click on the link for virtualdub and a whole slew of vdub variations pop up.
