  1. I have about 20 - 30 DVCD released in Hong Kong, Mongolia etc..

Does anyone know how to get the movie onto a hard drive as a DAT file or MPEG file? I've already tried many different software:-
ISOBUSTER cannot read any sector after 90%
    VCDGear stops at 90%
    Tmpgenc creates a corrupt file.

How can I rip them? I've never had any trouble with normal VCD's before.

DVCD are made by pressing data further out on the edges of the disk, and I believe its pressed tighter on the disk too. Basically, its the hardware equivalent of a 90 or 99 min cdr.

Can you play these disks on your pc? If you have a cd-rom only than chances are you won't be able to. Most cd-roms cannot read to the outer edges of the disk. If this is the case than you won't be able to rip these without using a dvd-rom. As long as you can play it, you can rip it.

  3. My DVD-ROM drives are able to playback DVCD's, and I'm able to save the 2 tracks, and even backup the whole discs. However, I cannot extract the MPEG stream, without corruption near the end. I think this must be some type of VCD protection, which is present on all my DVCD's, otherwise I think there is still a lot we don't know about official DVCD's and their architecture. Has anyone had experience with a commerical DVCD and been able to successfully rip them to the hard drive? You would not only be helping me, but some of my close friends are also baffled by them.
