Best way to create SVCD for a 16:9 HDTV

I'm currently using the guide on VCDhelp.com to convert
a divx file to mpeg2(TMPGenc) then buring it with Nero
the info on my divx file is

720 x 396
29.970 FPS
1362Kbps Bitrate

but when I watch it on my HDTV it does not appear to be
in true widescreen format, it looks a bit squeezed
is there any way to make it look more anamorphic?
like a true widescreen?

Use DVD2SVCD. In Miscellaneous tab DVD2SVCD level change to Advanced. Go select the input to AVI, and output MPEG2. Then in the conversion tab, select the Aspect Ratio to the Anamorphic Widescreen 16:9 ratio (no borders added). Problem solved, go through all the settings and there you go.
