  3. It's all about the bitrate. On the menu to the left look under 'Tools' and 'bitrate calculators.' I use the vcdhelp.com java one (they're all really the same). Enter the movie lenght, number of discs, audio quaility etc. etc. And it'll give you a bitrate to make the movie fit.

You've lowered the bitrate from he standard 1150kbit/s and are now about to make a xVCD (or xSVD). Now depending on your desired quaility you can either encode with CBR or 2pass VBR. 2pass VBR will give better quaility but take twice as long to encode (for TMPGenc). If you're using CCE you can do up to 5passes, and that'll take 6x as long to encode.

For TMPGenc, load the VCD template, then load the unlock template (normally in ../templates/extra). This will unlock all the greyed out parts of the standard template.

Load your source material as normal. Then click settings, set motion search to high. Under encode choose either CBR or 2pass VBR. For CBR enter the bitrate from the calculator. For 2pass VBR use that bitrate as the ave. If necessary, click on audio and change that what you put in the calculator too.

    Then just encode as normal.
