Anyone had tried the new BETA rpc1 firmware for LG4040b? Its a cracked version based on LG fw A302 and its available at:

I would like to known if it works right and which software is needed to control region number... Windows XP only can handle this changing region function?

i was always under the impression that these hacked firmwares made the drive region free.. ie made the drive think every disc was region 0 or whatever.
once you applied the firmware you shouldn't need to change the region for discs.
but i haven't tried it yet.. and its just my understanding.. i'm waiting for some other people to try that beta firmware out first before i give it a go.
My DVD-ROMs and DVD burner can't read my older Princo CD-R :( . I have other CD-R from the same time that I burned the Princo and they're fine (TDK), but the Princos are unreadable. After this I wasn't willing to try with Pinco DVD-+R. Hopefully I just lost a few old games, but since then I just use the best media for my valued data (backups, pictures, family DVD...)
That being said, I have just used Verbatim DVD-R and TDK DVD+RW with the LG, and no problem or anything.
