I don't know which software or hardware they used but all looks so real .
i am thinking about converting dozen B&W clips i have into color.
please if you only know how they do it reply.
ps; i don't want to go to shop and let them convert i want to do it myself.

What you are asking about uses very expensive software and is very time consuming and expensive when done commercially. One cheaper way is to convert the video into individual frames and process each one through Photoshop.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_colorization covers the basics. The Three Stooges were done by an outfit called Legend Films, who colourised a number of films. They appear to have gone under or at least changed hands. They used to be found at Legendfilms.net but that now opens Legen3d and the rest of site is simply missing.

It's a crime! A travesty! Moe, Larry, and Curly in color?! My world is collapsing...
But, to answer your question -- it's a VERY expensive, time consuming process.

The newbie was answered already.

  "ALL"?
The Stooges made 190 short features and half dozen movies.
A few -- a dozen or so -- of the shorts have been colourised and released on DVD a few years ago that I know of.
The rest have been restored and re-released, but in the original b/w.

			wikipedia
Some of the Stooge films have been colorized by two separate companies. The first colorized DVD releases, distributed by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, were prepared by West Wing Studios in 2004. The following year, Legend Films colorized the public domain shorts Malice in the Palace, Sing a Song of Six Pants, Disorder in the Court and Brideless Groom. Disorder in the Court and Brideless Groom also appear on two of West Wing's colorized releases.

I don't think the Stooges would have objected philosophically to being colourised, they were vaudeville performers, not Woody-Allen style auteurs. As they're usually seen now, in grainy scratched and cropped TV episodes, it hardly does them justice. I've seen the colourised ones, and they actually look quite realistic. They're the only ones I could get my daughter to watch. But to do it right is labour intensive and expensive.
