best DVD burner for best $$?

Hi.
Think i'm finally going to buy a dvd burner. VCD's aint cutting it anymore. I will be using the burner to copy DVD's to watch on my standalone dvd players. Which brand is the best to get..for the best price?? and which brand of blank discs should I use? Thanks in advance :?
