I've been reading the forums here for awhile, but I haven't been able to find what I need. I think I want a burner that can burn with the dvd-rom booksetting to work with my Toshiba sd2200 standalone player and insure compatibilty with other players.
Does anyone know of a list of ricoh-based burners that will allow you to change the booksetting?

There are 2 models of Ricoh DVD+RW drives that support +R/RW bitsetting.
The MP5125 is a 2.4x +R/RW unit. It is sold under many disguises also, including HP200i, Sony DRU120 etc etc. There is a thread here which outlines how to set NON-Ricoh branded units back to Ricoh Firmware:

Acknowledgement to Tompika for this guide. This is based on the MP5125 firmware.
The second Ricoh currently available is the MP5240, which is a 4x +R/RW drive. Standard firmware allows for bitsetting with this drive. I do not know which other 4x +R/RW drives are clones of this unit.
I have used my MP5125 for over 12 months now with the bit-setting option to use on a Toshiba SD2109, with very good results.

If you're going to go with HP, get the 300i/300e model. As far as I know, all HP DVD+RW drives (except maybe the 100i/100e) support bit setting.

Doesn't the 300i use a default setting of DVD-ROM to +R burned media? While that's still probably OK I presented info on the Ricoh units which allow fully flexible bit-setting via DVDInfoPro.
At any rate if the DVD-ROM setting works for the Toshi I agree then the 300i is a good choice at 4x +R and 2.4x +RW.

Well, got the 200. I had to make an exchange and the place I was dealing with had the hp200i for about the same price as the drive I replaced.
I do notice that it reads it as a HPdvd200j, not i. Not sure if that will present difficuties in flashing the drive. Reading the forums here it seems that some are having problems flashing these drives.
Guess I'll find out. :lol:
