While capturing a 2 hour movie With vegas from DAC-100 & FireWire, it has a readout of
Dropped frames
Capture time
Total time (something like that)
Anyway
It read "Dropped frames 41"
After I hit stop a popup comes up saying total frames etc: It also lists "dropped frames" but, it says "dropped frames 0"
Any thoughts?
Dropped frames 41 is correct
Dropped frames don't realy concern me.
41 frames in a movies with 80,000 ( give or take) doesn't seem like much.
What should I expect to see after I autho to DVD?
Some AVI's that I captured with dropped frames seem to play...well... nothing durring a dropped frame area. But if I skip ahead the rest plays fine.
Now when I used to capture with my old MSI card ( straight to MPEG2) it would drop frames but, it would still play. Those frames would be missing but you could hardly tell.
Hate to have a dvd play fine then, durring the dropped frames portion show nothing.
Like to know before I re-ncode the AVI file.
How fast is your prosessor? I never had dropped frames, and I use vegas 4.0 all the time. I use a amd 2.4 mhz
you dont need a fast cpu to capture dv .. but a drive that got lots of room and not fragmented is a good plan ..

40 gig seperate drive to capture.
What should I expect from the dropped frames after I autho it to DVD? Will those frames just be missing and not be noticable or will the video actualy stop and show nothing?
look on your time line in vegas to see if you see any black frames .. you can scroll real fast (scrub) and they should be noticable - if there any ..
use your JKL keys
I tend to believe the reading on the right of the screen rather than what comes up in the pop-up. Don't know why it does that........
When dealing with DV , dropped frames are typically a result of a bad 'data' source. Just ignore.
I get dropped frames occassionally when i record then play the video back for the kids to watch BUT don't stop before the last recording .This results in a little "head noise" (for want of better term) .Make sense !?

Oops! I meant hard drive. How fast is your hard drive? I use western digital 120jb with 8mb cache. 7200rpm's. In vegas manual it says if you can have dropped frames if your hard drive is slow.
Western Digital jb-? with 2mb cache, 7200rpm's. I believe both drives are the same. The capture too drive is 3 years old the OS drive is brand new.
That should be fast enough. Be sure to turn off any programs running in the background, like norton or such.
I watched the DVD I made... boy, the DAC-100 is great.
Anyway
It seemed to drop all 41 frames at the same scene. Cutting out about 3 seconds of straight footage, it just jumped right to the next picture in sync.
I'm going to re-run that one scene through the system and test it.
