Been away from video capture for quite a while but have a bunch of VHS/VHS-C tapes and camcorder tapes including Video 8 / HI8 and Mini DV tapes to archive, I noticed that Firewire has completely disappeared from Windows laptops and USB-C to Firewire is not even a thing despite ebay selling the cables for some strange reason?

I have picked up some vintage camcorder gear for playback including a Sony DCR TR7000E Digital 8 camcorder for the analog Video 8 and HI8 tapes, and also a Sony DCR PC1000E for the MiniDV tapes, I have a JVC S6955 S VHS VCR as well for the Svideo output which I read is the best way to capture standard VHS tapes, I was also given a Sony RDR-HXD970 which I believe has Timebase correction on its analog inputs so I think I have enough gear to archive the tapes that I have?

I am not a Mac guy but I realised that these Macbook Pros up to the Mid 2012 releases do native DV firewire capture and were built so well that many of them survive today and still work reliably, my question is what is the consensus with you expert videographers using Macs on the best Mac OS to use to archive DV footage? AI is telling me High Sierra but then I see Catalina mentioned with Catalina being the last official release for the A1278, is it worth installing Sequoia? I read that some of the Mac OS versions are better for firewire than others, also what is the best Mac software to do all of this archiving with?

Thanks for reading.
