I’ve been trying to transfer footage from my camcorder (HDR-FX1E) to my computer using a 4 to 9 pin firewire cable and a firewire card. The footage appears in WinDV’s preview and it captures fine until it cuts to a different shot, at which point the preview freezes and the capture pauses, not being able to be unpaused. Additionally, at any point cancelling the capture to save the footage (whether this is before or after the preview has frozen) the process gets stuck on initialising and after about a minute my whole computer will become unresponsive. Interestingly, the footage up to where the preview froze/stopped capturing is saved correctly and can be used as normal. I am using tbe legacy firewire drivers and have tried changing the settings in WinDV but nothing seems to help either of these issues. I have also tried using DVIO, and while it doesn’t have a preview the frame count stops increasing after a cut and it also freezes my computer when saving files, so I’m not really sure what could be happening.
Any help is appreciated, thank you.
