I've used this combo numerous times in the past to digitize old family VHS tapes. However when I tried again today, Scenalyzer (nor any other software) did not recognize or display a video stream. The analog light on the ADVC-100 is lit up and Scenalyzer shows the device as "AV/C Tape Recorder/Player".

If memory serves, I believe that box used to show "Microsoft DV Camera" or similar, but now I don't see that as an option. The dip switches are all in the Off position as I'm using analog inputs exclusively. I've tried using the front and rear firewire connections connected to both firewire jacks on PC without any luck.

I liked the ADVC-100 because it automatically synced audio and video.

Can anyone help me out with this problem?

At first the drivers always give me a BSoD with the error DRIVER_VIOLATION and i dont know how to fix it except deleting the drivers.
And the main one is that in constantly trying to put a blue screen over the capture because of lags and noises, which really annoys me cuz the main reason why i bought it so i could see the lags and noises from vhs tapes. I know you will say its because the chip is weak BUT if ill try to watch the video in Virtual Dub 2 in overlay mode it shows completely normal picture without any blue screens and signal losses.
Can anybody help me with this?
I will be really happy if someone does=)
P.S. There are actually more problem such as frame dropping. I really dont know what to do now =(((

I bought a used Toshiba RDXV60KB thinking I could record from NTSC VHS to DVD or to HDD.
Turns out I get errors E25 and E51 and the manual clearly says
"NTSC recording is prohibited in this unit."

F**k!

Just throwing questions out there for people that own this unit and have tried this:
-Is there no workaround? (Is this is a hardware limitation?)
-No hidden menu, or button combos I can do on the remote to unlock features?

I recentely acquired an ADCV-100 hoping it could pass through the DV signal from PC to another DV device, namely JVC - HM-DR10000EU.
And while ADVC-100 generally works, accepts analog input and converts it to DV output, accepts DV input and coverts it to analog output, I haven't been able to fully utilise the FireWire passthrough option.

It does however transport the DV signal from an HDV deck to ADVC, displays the analog output, but SCLive only detects the DV signal when the HDV deck is selected, completely bypassing the ADVC, when ADVC is selected as input it displays an error code 137.

Outputting DV signal in Vegas results in analog output being visible, but neither HDV nor D-VHS deck can properly accept it and does not output analog signal to monitor. Outputting the DV signal in SCLive only works when HDV deck is selected and once again the ADVC is bypassed and does not even produce analog output. Strangely Playback to ADVC does not work, but when playing a clip on the timeline the ADVC gets the image and displays it through analog output, but does not pass through the DV signal to other devices.

I have tried switching DIP 6 to both ON and OFF positions.

The D-VHS deck accepts DV signal from the HDV deck as input and properly outputs them through analog outputs for monitoring.

But the entire purpose I got ADVC was to use the DV passthrough to D-VHS deck, since Vegas does not detect D-VHS deck as a DV device to send DV signal directly, so I thought It could send it to ADVC, which it can, and ADVC would just pass the signal to D-VHS deck for recording, but it appears that it doesn't really do that, with HDV deck it acts like it wasn't there, the PC detects the deck and signal, as if it was directly connected, but when switching to ADVC SCLive refuses to connect to it to get the DV input from ADVC coming to it externally.

Just for thoroughness, I have excluded the PC from the equation and connected the HDV deck to the 4-pin front DV connector and the D-VHS to the back 6-pin connector and played the tape from HDV deck and he D-VHS received a DV input, I checked analog output on all three stages and is there, then reversed the FireWire connections and it also still worked fine.

Most posts I see on MII are about how disliked the format was as it was pretty finicky even when new. Issues cited tend to be shedding/sticking and the machines required frequent maintenance to continue working at all.

I'm sure most TV stations were all too glad to get rid of the machines and tapes once they were phased out. The full size machines are also very large/heavy at around 80lbs, making them difficult to ship or to justify keeping unused in storage.

I did get a Panasonic AU-65 machine working well, but my concern is how long it will stay that way. See below for machine playing a self-recorded tape:

I'd like to inquire if anyone has MII items such as parts machines, individual parts, card extender boards, and/or maintenance equipment/alignment tapes.

Also, if you have any MII tapes that you would like digitized, I should be able to beat anyone's price and turnaround time for that service using your choice of hardware chain and delivery format. All tapes will be baked first to reduce the risk of as much shedding which tends to get worse as the tapes absorb moisture over time. I do also have the equipment to physically clean the tapes if required. If tape transfer is unsuccessful for whatever reason, I wouldn't charge for the service, just return shipping if you want the tape(s) back.

I recently bought a Sony DSR-1500A for the purposes of converting my MiniDV and DVCAM tapes, and while I love using the thing, it has a problem that makes it impossible to use.

The unit only has 3 operational hours, 3 tape hours, 4 threading hours, and 3 drum hours, yet when I insert either a MiniDV tape or DVCAM cassette, the counter does not move from 0:00:00.00, and no image comes through the firewire port at the back of the unit. The actual tape transport mechanism is fine. I'm wondering if its because the heads are dirty, thus I ordered some materials and cleaning cassettes so I can (hopefully) fix it. I'm looking forward to using this deck, but not being able to get a video output really butchers the experience of using it. I've also tried to set everything in the menus I could to something related to MiniDV, but the indicator for DVCAM still illuminates despite me trying many MiniDV tapes, however it goes away if I press REC and PLAY at the same time and then sticks to the DV logo.

Would dirty heads be the issue here? Or does the unit need major servicing? it's got low hours on it, but I'm not too sure.

Recently got a lead on some potential footage that's of interest to me on Digital Betacam format.

As I'd been toying with getting a deck in general and learning the format, I got myself a wonderful, low hours Sony J-30SDI.

I've got one PAL Betacam SP tape as a test. I don't yet have any Digital Betacam tapes, but I wanted to ask some basic questions which I will list below so I am ready if/when I do.

My current workflow is J-30 SDI > Magewell AIO 4K (via SDI) and capturing using VirtualDub in lossless HuffYUV.

Now, I only use HuffYUV because that's the same setup as when I capture other analog formats such as VHS/Hi8. The workflow to VHS is: JVC VCR > Pioneer DVD Recorder > Magewell Pro Capture HDMI. This works well, I get no dropped frames and my PVR always shows a nice clean signal.

So here are my initial questions for Betacam.

1. Should I use VirtualDub? Will it capture all audio channels? (My current tape only seems to have CH1&CH2 which just seems to be left and right stereo audio - but will it capture CH3&4 if they were to exist?)
2. Could I ditch the DVD recorder altogether and get an analog to SDI converter? Will this give me the stable frame signal? I have seen people use a Blackmagic device.
3. When it comes to capturing Digital Betacam, I want to actually rip the contents of the tape as a 1:1 copy. Will VirtualDub also do this? Is there not a specialist software that will rip the contents in the proper digital format like Scenalyser does for DV (I can control my DV deck with the FireWire port). I have read something to do with the FFV1 codec?

Sorry if these are stupid questions, or lead to further questions but ultimately I just want to be confident I am capturing tapes as per best practice.

Hope you all are doing well.

I've been trying to work on a project to capture Betacam tapes to lossless video files in the same manner I do with VHS. Which is through amarec with Lags video and PCM audio.

I did some searching on which PCI-e capture device would work for component and I settled on the older Blackmagic Intensity Pro as from this word that it was "OK" here (https://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/vid...t-capture.html)

I've just received the card and have been trying to use it on my Windows 11 desktop in the same way that I use the PVR 1290 for composite and S-Video capture. But after installing the drivers for the card from both the included DVD and from one other ISO on archive org for the device I still only get a black screen and no audio.

Nothing on Virtualdub, Amarec and even Blackmagic Media Express from the DVD it came with.


I should clarify that for audio I will probably need some more help as I have never dealt with XLR audio capture. I bought XLR to RCA cables but from what I can gather just now it seems that won't work. Any recommendations on what to do with XLR would help a ton.


That said I don't really know what is causing the lack of video from the card. I'm not sure if I need another specific yet lost driver out there or if Windows 11 is too new of a driver.

If Windows 11 is too new which capture devices would work that would also allow me to use AmarecTv and not some proprietary half functional software that doesn't cost as much as the Beta deck itself?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
