It started out as just a simple way for me to handle FFmpeg conversions, but over the last 6 months, it’s evolved into a much bigger video editing platform.

I’ve put a ton of time into getting some specific features working that I couldn't find elsewhere, like: Black and White "Filmic" conversions for any footage. Built-in yt-dlp downloading. Proper GoPro and iPhone imports (getting the iPhone import to play nice with Windows 11 was a massive headache compared to Mac, but it’s finally stable).

Since I've put so much of my own time into the development, it is a paid tool, but I’ve tried to make it handle the stuff that usually requires three different apps to get done.

Do I need to do this shifting before rendering, or the misalignment is only a glitch in Vegas, and in reality, the audio will play on time even if it appears shifted after rendering? I have exported it to a 30fps Constant FR AVI for processing.

I started off with the phone virtually stationary, then panned, and then slowed down the pan to stop. What I've found is this:

Slow movements at the start have been interpolated nicely. But as the panning speed increases, the interpolation stops and I get motion every 2nd frame. Then, at the end, as I slow down the pan to almost stopped, the interpolation kicks in again.

For privacy reasons I can't post the file but if necessary, will try to make another tomorrow to try to simulate this problem file.

I have tried various models but with no luck. I also tried Frame Rate Converter but it was throwing up blended frames.

How to properly encode the video with:
a) convert colorspace so that youtube keeps the brightness the same
b) crop the borders
c) upscale to 4K, otherwise youtube uses too low bitrate and the quality suffers a lot
d) deinterlace (bob)

with a single ffmpeg command if possible.
Should be easier to do steps b+c with avisynth though.

If I convert to BT709 or BT601 with Handbrake the video brightness is much better after uploaded to youtube, but still a bit darker than the original (e.g. if BT.601 EBU (=PAL) is selected in Handbrake, mediainfo reports: Color primaries : BT.601 PAL Transfer characteristics : BT.709 Matrix coefficients : BT.601).

I also tried with Handbrake colorspace custom format with the following valuers, which gets the correct brightness in youtube:
primaries="bt601-6-525":transfer="bt709":matrix="bt601-6-525"
For the resulting file Mediainfo only reports: Transfer characteristics : BT.709" and omits color primaries and matrix coefficients.
The problem with this custom colorspace is that it doesn't work when upscaling is enabled. For some reason it also shifts the image a few pixels rightwards.

They've got a working capture setup, decent footage, and then they hit Hybrid or Avisynth and shut down completely.

My initial attempt to help the community has to create a Hybrid for Beginners video on YouTube, showing the most basic but required steps.

My new attempt to help is the VCG Deinterlacer Windows application.

It's a Windows wizard-style application built for people with a capture device (a USB capture stick, a DV-25 camcorder) who need to handle the core post-capture workflow. It wraps QTGMC, the industry-standard motion-compensated deinterlacer, along with several other VapourSynth filters, behind a step-by-step interface. It's the software I wish had existed when I got back into video capture a few years ago.

What it does:
  • Deinterlaces using QTGMC, configured conservatively to preserve analog character without over-sharpening
  • Automatically crops switching noise from the bottom (and edges where applicable)
  • Optional temporal denoising via SMDegrain (light or heavy)
  • Optional upscale to HD resolutions using NNEDI3 -- useful because YouTube compresses HD uploads better than SD, so your final video actually looks cleaner online
  • NTSC and PAL support with correct pixel aspect ratio handling
  • Batch processing, drag and drop, no installer required

Advanced Options (all optional):
  • Y/C Delay correction, Color Cast correction, Levels adjustment, mono-to-stereo audio mix
  • Output formats: ProRes HQ, H.264, FFV1
  • On first launch it downloads and installs FFmpeg and VapourSynth automatically (about 136 MB). Nothing else to configure.

I want to be clear about scope. This is not a replacement for Hybrid. If you need dehalo, advanced color grading, custom filter chains, or anything beyond the standard analog tape workflow, use Hybrid. I still do. VCG Deinterlacer covers the most important steps for the typical newcomer with SD or DV footage and gets them to a clean output without a steep learning curve.

I test every release on a secondary Windows machine to make sure it runs cleanly on a system other than my own development setup. That said, bugs are still possible. If you run into anything, please leave a note on the GitHub releases page or reply here.

i had a few DVDs, ripped all on an SSD, that i kept one audio language (French), except for Thriller in dual eng/swe with fr sub.

It's 576p PAL DvDs, except Thriller and Girlfight (480p is in sample filename). Girlfight is 4:3 (full image) the 16:9 BluRay/HdtV is crappy (proof, A-R not set).


A-R has to be managed by media player, a lot of the rendered DvDs i have output wrongly ! SShots of the A-R's:

How do i manage to encode all this stuff correctly, i'd like to get rid of the MPeg2 originals but want perfect copies, even if size is same idc.

I'll use x265, deinterlace (decomb for 480p) and fix aspecxt ratio (LoL).
