Hi again

I have a Panasonix PV-8500 VCR set. I bought it in my very early 20s, and gently used it until the late 90s. After that, I properly stored it in my bedroom closet in its original packaging. On a lark, I pulled it out and it worked! I took it to an old VCR repair person who w stll works on them in retirement. He cleaned it out, replaced the rubber parts and changed out a suspicious cap. It plays and records perfectly. I had dust covers for it when I used it but they long ago fell into some black hole somewhere to never be found. Even if they were still in existence, that they would be so brittle as to be unusable.

Right now, I'm using a dish towel as a dust cover. I suspect thatcoriginal dust covers are made of unobtainium. I want to leave the cables connected but still have proper fitted dust covers.

Any ideas or suggestions are quite welcom. I do not mind paying for custom made dust covers.

Thank you very much...

Joe

Looking at laptops for video editing and the usual encoding tasks, and most of the ones that keep their performance under long loads also sound like a jet engine. Has anyone found a model that holds its clocks reasonably well without being painfully loud?

Would also like to know if liquid metal vs standard paste on laptops makes a noticeable real-world difference, or if that's mostly marketing.

Hi all, I am new to anything video, so hopefully you all can help me with a project.

After cleaning out our dad's house, we found some old vhs-c tapes (1990's), I sent them to a local company here in Montana to have them converted to digital mp4 files. However, the quality of the files is nasty - so many horizontal lines running thru the video's that you can't watch them. I have been looking into software that might allow me to clean these up but I am really not sure what software I need. Or even if there is software out there that will do what I want.

I attached a screen shot of what the video looks like so you can see the lines I am talking about, I am not sure what you call them. Is there software that I can purchase that will allow me to clean up the lines that run thru the video or am I just dreaming that I could clean these up?

Thanks
Cindy

Also wondering if a laptop with a dedicated GPU is really worth it for encoding, or if a good CPU with more cores is the better use of money. For anyone who has experience with UK laptop stores, I’d be interested to hear what you’d recommend for this kind of workload.

My input source is 50P, my target is to get 25i. Using ffmpeg64bit2019.exe seems correct 25 interlaced FPS and MBAFF, but with ffmpeg12ago2026.exe, the mediainfo signalling 50FPS MBAFF so it don't seems to me correct (?)

Hi, brand new user and apologies if this is too similar to previous topics or not in the right place.

I'm puzzled by a VCR issue I'm having. We inherited an Emerson combo VCR/DVD player from my late mother-in-law. I tried playing an old home movie VHS and got audio but no video (the screen had text saying "No signal" though I could hear audio). I was using an older plug-in composite to HDMI adapter and thought that might be the issue so I got a new adapter from Best Buy. Same issue.

I then thought the VCR/DVD player itself might be the issue, so I got an afforbale VHS-only player off Ebay, a Sanyo. The player came with a commercial tape, which worked perfectly once I played it. However upon trying to play the same home movie VHS I tried in the previous player, I got the same "no signal" message and could hear audio without video playing. The commercial tape that previously worked in the Sanyo now also gives the same message, "no signal" and I've also lost audio when trying to play that tape.

I'm really baffled and worried that I've broken something given these home movies are a source of precious few video recordings of my wife's late mother, and really want to recover the ability to view video and sound if at all possible. If anyone has ideas for what the problem may be, or how to solve it I would really appreciate it. Thank you!
