I think there should be such a category because frankly everything we do today needs a connection to the internet. The various methods are:

ADSL
Cellular
Fiber
Satellites

What I would like to discuss today is receiving internet using satellites, specifically Starlink.

I was a bit surprised when I discovered that Starlink is available in my location and that all I need to do is order it from the website.
Another possibility is buying the hardware from reputable computer stores, which has the added advantage that I can pay in 12 equal installments for the hardware instead of paying everything in one payment. Then contact Starlink to setup the account.

Actually Starlink is NOT competitive at all with what we have available here using fiber internet, as I have unlimited 600 Mbps download and 100 Mbps Upload without contract costing me about $30/ month and Starlink starts with $55 / month for 100 Mbps and perhaps 20-30 Mbps Upload, but I have always wanted to explore the internet via satellites since maybe 30 years ago, so this is a kind of expensive hobby if I do decide to buy the hardware and subscribe to Starlink on a monthly basis.
The hardware including taxes and shipment is $530 so it is not cheap at all.
If 100 Mbps is good enough for my needs then I can disconnect from fiber and rely only on Starlink.

My major concern is that the dish part can be easily dismantled or vandalized by anyone, as we have a roof top that is accessible from my building and a neighboring building, although the dish will not be of any use once I activate it in my name but there are people who stop at nothing if they have the chance.
I can only install it on the roof top wall of my apartment, because Starlink uses Ethernet cable and NOT the usual coaxial cable used when installing satellite dishes so it has to be short going down to my apartment.
A standard satellite dish is hard to dismantle or vandalize especially if it is on roof top

Before I decide on ordering the hardware, I would like to know if there is a way I can get the dish part secured better, perhaps drill holes in the mounting accessory and using security screws like Torxs, hopefully this will not cause damage to the dish part.

Amazon Leo is another possibility, but this will take time perhaps few years before it becomes available in my location and the cost is still unknown.

Has anyone got Starlink today at home and would you recommend it?
Is there a good way to secure the dish part?
I have seen on Amazon a cover for the dish, will it affect the reception?

TSCutter.GUI is a lightweight application for navigating and cutting Transport Stream files at keyframe boundaries. It also includes TS checking, PCR/timeline repair, stream filtering and binary merging tools.

What does multi-source repair do?

Sometimes the same DVB or IPTV feed is recorded more than once, but every recording has defects in different places. A single-file repair tool cannot recover media data that is completely absent from that file, while another recording may still contain it.

TSCutter.GUI uses matching content from auxiliary recordings to repair or reduce defects in a selected reference recording.

Potentially repairable problems include:
  • Missing TS packets and continuity-counter gaps
  • Packets marked with TEI
  • PES length or boundary corruption
  • Localised ES damage around confirmed fault regions
  • Short bursts containing many missing packets
  • Large missing intervals caused by recording, network or storage failures

Compatible sources

The files do not need identical PID assignments, PES boundaries or TS packetisation. They may also start and end at different times or retain different audio and subtitle tracks.

However, they must contain overlapping parts of the same encoded broadcast event. A repeat broadcast, transcoded video, resampled audio, or a source containing different regional inserts or advertisements is not interchangeable.

The current implementation supports standard 188-byte TS packets. It does not use visual similarity, interpolation or re-encoding: inserted media data must come from a compatible recording.

Large missing intervals

The tool can also search for continuous missing sections lasting several seconds or longer. Matching content before and after the gap is used as an anchor:

Because searching long recordings can be expensive, large-gap matching is offered as a separate advanced step. Repairable gaps are selected automatically after matching, but they can be reviewed and deselected before output.

How to use it

After downloading and extracting TSCutter.GUI, open:

Tools -> TS Multi-source Repair...

There is no need to open a video in the main window first.
  1. Add at least two recordings and select the reference file.
  2. Leave timeline normalisation enabled unless the source timelines are already known to align.
  3. Click Analyze Sources.
  4. If long gaps are detected, run the offered long-gap matching step.
  5. Review the repair map and results, then choose Repair and Output....

The reference file determines the output programme, tracks, beginning and end. Auxiliary files supply replacement data only; they do not add extra programmes or tracks.

Safety

Source files are opened read-only and are never modified. If the tool cannot establish a sufficiently safe match, the original region is left unchanged. The result is checked while it is written, and partial repairs may still report unresolved errors.

So my issue is, through my TV app (without AppleTV), I can set my TV's statistics to show me what fps the video is natively playing through the SlingTV app, which is 29.970fps (though I'm not sure if that's interlaced or progressive).

However, when I'm capturing, obviously I'm using the SlingTV app on my Apple TV device. So I've tried setting my Apple TV device to play video at 1080p 29.97Hz, hooked it up to my MacBook through Elgato HD 60X, and capturing via OBS at 29.970fps.

What I'm noticing though is capturing at 29.970fps results in choppy motion with dropped frames.

SO I went back and changed my Apple TV settings to 1080p 59.94Hz and changed my OBS to capture at 59.940fps. The motion is much smoother, however there's obviously a lot of duplicate frames. However, it's not the same pattern you'd expect.

With 23.976 -> 29.970 you get a duplicate frame every 5 frames (ABCDD) so doubling that to 59.940 fps, I was expecting a pattern of AABBCCDDDD. However that's not the case.

Anyway, can someone help me figure out how to adjust my settings so I'm not getting any dropped frames or duplicate frames?
