Basically how to test if a string variable value is greater than the batch file 32 bit signed limit of 2,147,483,647.

This can be held in a batch string variable but any attempt to set it to an arithmetic value causes an error, as expected.

To avoid the error I thought if a test using PS first could be used to know if value was greater or not than limit.

Ideally I could then put the result into a batch file string var say YES or NO.

I'm not at all familiar with PS.

Thanks for any help with this.

I'm trying to locate a short MPEG video clip that was bundled with codec or multimedia developer software around 1999–2002 (possibly slightly earlier). My son and I used to watch it years ago and I'd love to find it again.

What I remember about the clip:

Format: MPEG-1 (.mpg or .m1v)

Duration: about 8–12 seconds

Looping animation

Resolution likely 352×240 (SIF)

Content of the clip:

A blue cartoon bird (parrot-like) hovering in place

Large orange/yellow beak

Big white cartoon eyes with black pupils

Rounded wings flapping

Visible dangling legs

Bird faces slightly toward the camera

Background is a flat saturated blue sky

The bird drifts slightly while hovering

About halfway through the clip:

The bird pauses

its face grimaces / strains

it drops a white blob (bird droppings) downward

then resumes hovering

The clip loops continuously.

Context where I saw it:

It came with codec-related or multimedia software

Possibly bundled with:

MPEG encoder / player software

Sound Blaster multimedia demo CDs

VideoCD tools

Xing MPEG player

RealMagic MPEG hardware drivers

The file may have been named something generic like:

bird.mpg
demo.mpg
anim2.mpg
sample.mpg

Does anyone remember this clip or know which CD / software package it shipped with? Or better yet have a youtube link of the clip

I'd love to recover the original file if it still exists somewhere.

Thanks
Dave

Not so long ago, on YouTube, when getting the list of available formats with yt-dlp (https://www.videohelp.com/software/yt-dlp), for some videos there used to be multiple audio only streams in various languages, presumably corresponding to automatic translations, but those seem to have disappeared....

Not so long ago, on YouTube, when getting the list of available formats with yt-dlp, for some videos there used to be multiple audio only streams in various languages, presumably corresponding to automatic translations, but those seem to have disappeared. Why?
I downloading a few videos with those alternate language streams and found the result technically impressive (if fully automated) but weird and uncanny to listen to...
Side question: normally, whenever there are multiple audio versions (currently for combined video + audio streams, formerly for audio only streams as well), the lower code number should correspond to the original audio in the native language (for instance “140-0” or “95-0”), but it's always the highest numbered version. Why? That makes it more difficult to automate the selection of streams to download (since the code number varies depending on how many streams are available for each video).

Example:
In January I downloaded that video (which is seriously hilarious by the way), and saved the yt-dlp output for future reference as I usually do; I selected streams “136+140-10” as there were 11 audio streams available with code “140-#” (from “140-0” to “140-10”) and the original English was the last one. It also listed multiple languages for formats “91”, “92”, “93”, “94”, “95”, “96” which contain both video and audio, and likewise, the one in original English language was the last one.
If I re-run the same command now, the list of available formats is much shorter. Since then, using a “JavaScript runtime” in combination with yt-dlp has become increasingly mandatory so I added a call to QuickJS (the only one still working on Windows 7 out of the four suggested), now more formats are listed, but there's only one “140” stream, and the total number of video and/or audio streams went from 139 to 95. There are still multiple languages but only for video + audio streams.

Another:
In November I downloaded that video, selecting both “140-0” and “140-1” audio streams. Here “140-1” was the original audio in French and “140-0” was an automatic dub in English. Like I said, the result is jarring, both positively as it's technically impressive, and negatively as it's so fu##ing weird. It seems mostly accurate and except for a few seconds of silence around 05:20 it correctly distinguishes between dialog and songs. At some points though the auto dubbing is abnormally fast. An extra oddity is that it mixes up some male and female voices – the host Thierry Ardisson (who died a few months ago at age 76 – that show was from the late 1990s or early 2000s) is dubbed as a “woman”, while Geneviève de Fontenay, the old woman with a hat (who used to organise the “Miss France” contest – incidentally, co-host Linda Hardy was a former Miss France, that's why they were joking about her “honesty”, since winners of the “Miss France” contest are supposed to be both beautiful bodies and spotless minds) and an admittedly deep voice, is dubbed as a “man”. (See attached video if you'd like to check it out.)
Likewise, if I run the same command now to list the available formats, there is only one “140” audio stream available in original French.

Another:
In December I downloaded that video, selecting four “140-#” audio streams out of nine available (from “140-0” to “140-8”). Again, the original audio was the last one, “140-8”. The result is particularly goofy here, with the automatic dubs rendering overblown alpha male grunts as a well mannered conversation between a posh advertising man and a posh advertising woman, but still impressive as the marvelous machine manages to distinguish between actual grunts and halfway intelligible utterances. (Video also attached.)
Likewise, if I run the same command now to list the available formats, there is only one “140” audio stream available in original English.
By the way, with yt-dlp, when choosing multiple streams in a MKV container, I found no way of properly naming or tagging each one; in most cases, the first stream is tagged as “English”, which turns out to be correct for that one, but is incorrect if the first stream is in French for instance, and all others don't have any name. For the example above there is no language tag at all, even though it was downloaded at the same period with the same method. If it's not possible to have correct tags, I would prefer no tags at all.

{Note: I had posted this yesterday in “Video Streaming Downloading”, but got a warning saying that the post would have to be approved by a moderator, which usually doesn't happen, so I guess that this section has more stringent rules. Since then it did not appear. I don't know if that's because 1) no moderator was available, or 2) it was indeed not approved as it's not quite the kind of topic expected in that section which primarily deals with how to download streaming contents, or 3) it was indeed not approved for another undisclosed reason, or 4) it simply vanished because of some unforeseen SNAFU. So I apologize in advance if it's indeed been deemed unsuitable for some reason.)

Hey everyone, hope you can help me out with this because I've been going at it for a while and can't figure it out.

I have some videos generated with Grok that when played back look like they're skipping, as if a few frames are just missing at that point. It's not that the audio cuts out or the video freezes completely — it's more like a sudden jump in the motion. It happens randomly, not always in the same spot, and the weird thing is it doesn't happen on every video I generate — some come out perfectly fine, others have these skips.

The videos are MP4, 416x752 (vertical format), 24fps. There are no duplicate or frozen frames — the motion just jumps from one point to another with no transition, as if those frames simply don't exist in the file.

I tried using RIFE in Hybrid to see if it could reconstruct the missing frames through interpolation, but I'm not sure if that's even the right approach for this kind of problem.

Has anyone dealt with something like this with AI-generated video? Is there a tool or workflow you'd recommend for detecting and reconstructing truly missing frames? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I'm wondering if there's a way to increase the encoding quality while maintaining the same or smaller file size, even at the cost of slower processing

and question n°2

this is my another source at 120fps

https://www.swisstransfer.com/d/11373a7e-2926-4beb-81dc-bcff09bcecbc

I need to generate an output at 25 or 50 fps "time corrected" as if it hadn't been shot at 120fps, is it possible?

:D

has anyone ever had that feeling where encoding has gotten slower and slower over the years, even when you don't change anything major in your hardware? i'm still rocking an i7-8700k, 64gb ddr4, an an nvidia rtx 2070. x264 encoding through ffmpeg has been pretty slow for a 480i avisynth script and i don't know why. i'm only getting 20fps with preset slow. shouldn't it be a little faster? at least a bit more than realtime?

x264 command:

Code:

ffmpeg -hwaccel auto -i "script.avs" -pix_fmt yuv420p -aspect 652:480 -vf setfield=bff -c:v libx264 -x264opts bff=1 -x264-params opencl=true -preset slow -crf 16 -c:a libfdk_aac -cutoff 18000 -vbr 5 "output.mkv"

i also tried to encode another avisynth script. the source is a 1080i mpeg2 file deinterlaced with qtgmc and upscaled to 4k for youtube. i'm not expecting realtime encoding with this of course, but in 2023 i could get about 2-4fps with hevc_nvenc. now it takes 20 minutes just for the encode to even start and i only get 0.05fps and maybe an slow increase to 1-3 overtime. same encoding settings and same script.

i'm trying to find some benchmarks of my cpu made when it came out (2017) and they aren't helpful. for x264 encoding benchmarks, a lot of them don't share the encoding preset or the resolution of the source, just framerates. so i can't tell if the speeds are accurate.

does anyone have any tips that could potentially help in slightly speeding things up? or are these speeds expected with my cpu? i could've swore it was faster a couple years ago.

hevc_nvenc command:

Code:

ffmpeg -hwaccel auto -i "script.avs" -pix_fmt yuv420p10le -c:v hevc_nvenc -rc vbr -cq 16 -qmin 16 -qmax 16 -b:v 0K -preset p7 -c:a copy "output.mkv"

maybe these have always been the speeds i got. i'm not sure. does anyone know what's up?

Hi all.

I'm new to the forum, had two strokes over five years ago, and considering I haven't been to to this in YEARS. It may forever until I understood glossary, but hopefully you'll help.

Years ago I was an editor on Sony TV used. Now, the only things I've touched are VLC media, https://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html and--you may guess it--Microsoft's older "Movie Maker." (Are there any around?)

I have am Ultra Blu-ray Disc Player and Windows 11. Add to that, a bunch of little kids' video nearly 40 years old, and quite a few of child professional video tapes.

Can you refer me to software I can handle? Also, is there a way to do the captions. I appreciate it.

(And by the way, WHY is it that people invent brilliant things and no manual? If I get a new car, there's ALWAYS a manual. What's up with that?)

Thanks,

Hi

however I'm a cat-:o

Code:

AssumeTFF().separatefields().selectevery(4,0,3).weave()

but seems it produce "crude" results of twitter when that video is converted to interlaced, almost as if instead of outputting in progressive and then interlacing with ffmpeg using -vf interlace seems a little more "smooth", less "crude".

So I wonder, is there an alternative or a plugin that interlace in avisynth reducing twittering?
