Extract DVB subtitles (or teletext?)

Hello,

I am quite the amateur when it comes to video and subtitles.

When I open a video in VLC, it shows 6 subtitles track. 2 tracks that MKVToolNix and CCExtractor recognise, and 4 others that they don't. Alas, that one I want to extract is one of those. I don't know how to figure out what sort of subtitles they are.
Here how VLC presents them:

I first thought they were teletext but as I said, I'm quite the amateur so I'm not sure. I've come across the term DVB subtitles as well.

I've also seen ffmpeg been recommended but I'll admit I really struggle with command lines. I cannot begin to fathom what to write to figure out how to get the information and how to extract the subs/teletext/whatever they are.

The reason I want to convert it to a srt file is to change their appearance in VLC because they are not easy to read at all in this format.

Easy way to rename a lot of video files. In Windows.

First thing you need is Karolj Kočmaro� Subtitle and Video File Renamer https://karoljkocmaros.blogspot.com/p/subtitle-video-renamer.html

Second thing is to get the episode list from epguides, for example https://epguides.com/Art21/
Click List as .csv Select the lines for the episodes you want to rename. Copy to clipboard.

(five lines as an example, there are 44 episodes)

Create a new text file then paste into it and save with the extension changed to .csv If your text editor doesn't allow changing that, rename it after saving.

Open the CSV file in Excel or another spreadsheet program. In Excel, the " marks are ignored when opening a CSV.

You'll have columns A B C D E F
Delete column F and clear the contents of A B C D

In column C enter ART21 in row 1. With Excel you can automatically fill the column by dragging the lower right corner of the cell down the column. Since this show name ends with a number, Excel will auto-increment it. The way to stop that is add a letter to the end, so for example make it ART21P. (P for Placeholder.)

In column F, enter .srt in row 1. Drag down to fill all of the column with .srt (any subtitle file name extension Subtitle and Video File Renamer recognizes will do here)

In column B, fill with echo

Right click column D, Format Cells, select Text. Otherwise Excel will interpret this as formulas with an exponent.
In row 1 enter S01E01 or however you prefer your season and episode numbering, as long as it ends with a number. (I never use the S.)
Drag down to the last episode of Season 1, then in the next cell down, enter S02E01
Repeat until all your seasons and episodes are numbered.

Delete column A, which should be empty.

Save the CSV file. Note that if you re-open the CSV, Excel will interpret the series and episode number column as formulas since the plain text CSV format has no way to denote the data types.

Change the .csv file name extension to .txt and open it.

The contents will be like this

echo,ART21P,S01E04,Consumption,.srt
echo,ART21P,S01E05,Stories,.srt

Do find and replace all to change ,.srt to .srt"

Find and replace all echo, with echo "" >"

Extra step due to having to change the show name, replace all ART21P with ART21

Lastly, replace all , with a space.

The lines should now be like this

echo "" >"ART21 S01E02 Identity.srt"
echo "" >"ART21 S01E03 Spirituality.srt"
echo "" >"ART21 S01E04 Consumption.srt"
echo "" >"ART21 S01E05 Stories.srt"

These characters are not allowed in Windows file names
< > : " / \ | ? *
If an episode title contains any of them (most often it will be a : or ?) you'll need to remove or change it.

Change the .txt file name extension to .cmd or .bat then doubleclick it. It generates an empty subtitle file for every episode. It's best to run this in an empty folder.

Use them in the subtitle side of the renamer to rename all of your video files. Then you can delete the empty subtitle files.

When you have a large number of video files to rename, this is much quicker than renaming the files one by one, typing or copying and pasting the names and other information.

Subtitle Edit Waveform not lining up with Subtitle

Hi there,

I just updated to Subtitle Edit v5.0.0-rc3. I'm noticing the subs are not lining up with the waveform. I can clearly see when someone begins talking on the waveform, but I have to move the sub past that point in order for it to sync. I'm including a pic where the voice starts on the waveform, but the voice on the picture and sub start later.

Has anyone else come across this?

Help defining workflow for sub retiming

Hello,
I have two .srt files in two different languages, EN and IT. One has the correct timing, the other needs to be adjusted. The two subs have different number of lines, the IT has less but because they are merged into one.

I'm using Subtitle Editor, Is there a way to port the EN timing to the IT sub without doing it one line at time? I tried with visual sync but the result is bad because the movie goes out of sync fast. So defining 3 or more points is not useful because all the lines in between are unaligned. The movie is in japanese so after a while I can't really tell if the line is matching the actual speak, I can't really rely on audio feedback.

Is there a tool (maybe ai based?) that could match EN-IT lines using the EN times?

Trying in here, as I have received some help from here before. I used to like downloading subtitles from addic7ed but the site has turned impossible for me now. Half of the providers completely block it and don't allow to open the page at all. And even if I get access to the main page with VPN, I haven't been able to register with any e-mail for a long time, the confirmation e-mail just does not come. I know the workaround of registering and then somehow still getting access to the show list using the site owner's e-mail (something like that) but this only works once and it's boring to go through that process every time I try to enter the site.

But the forum site of addic7ed (Sub-talk) is even worse for me - it's totally impossible for me to register there with any e-mail and there seems to be no workaround.

The subtitles for the series do not seem to be available anywhere else, not even addic7ed itself. I assume registered members can download them from that thread.
Is anyone here able to access that page and download those subtitles? And maybe re-upload them here or some other subtitle site that is less difficult to access?
