I try the BMDCodecMJPG64.dll in virtualdub, it's a VFW 64bit codec

it works but I cannot configure it: I can go in the video compression settings, select it and encode

but encoding is alwais interlaced and a low bitrate.

I recently purchased a vintage camcorder from the 1980s, a Panasonic NV-M3 VHS Movie Autofocus. The seller told me it was in working condition but hadn't been used in a long time.

I bought some new VHS tapes for the occasion. The camcorder turns on, the screen lights up, and the buttons on the screen work, as do the autofocus and zoom.

What doesn’t work is the battery, which is probably dead since it’s 40 years old. But I managed to power the camcorder using an AC adapter.

When I received it, the camcorder was empty—no VHS tape inside. So I opened the cassette compartment to insert a new one, and since I did that, the tape has spun a little, but now I can’t get it out using the EJECT button.

When I turn on the camcorder, the PLAY and REC buttons light up and then turn off after 5 seconds. And if I press the EJECT button during that time, the buttons turn off instantly. However, the screen stays on, and the zoom, focus, white balance, and screen buttons remain functional.

I tried opening it to remove the cassette manually, but I’m afraid of breaking something given how complex the machine is. I searched online for solutions but couldn’t find anything.

I don't know if it's a problem with the tape or maybe the battery, since the camcorder only works when plugged in. And repairing the battery is a whole other story: since it's no longer manufactured, I have to repair it myself by replacing the cells.

I hope someone has some information or solutions—I’m open to anything. I’m pretty sure it’s just a simple safety feature on the camcorder.

I'm looking for a (cheap) way to derive a V sync pulse from an HDMI signal. I'm aware of the Analog Devices decoder chip, but it's way too expensive.

There are $20 HDMI --> VGA adapters that have H+V sync on the VGA output, but they're locked to certain standards. You can only use them with 1080p/60, for example. Not surprising, since there are no 24fps VGA monitors (-:

I'm open to something using a fast micro with HDMI-in. Programming wouldn't be a problem (he says)

Now if I put the zombie girl video ontop of the video of me opening the door I can croma key the green background in her video so it looks like she is standing here.

The thing is as I am opening the Door I want it to show her like she is stand there behind the Door.

I do not want to open the Door then have her video just pop her in.

Call me weird but I don't like watching gameplay videos at 60fps, the motion is TOO smooth and like a 'soap opera'. It irritates me.

I can download the video and convert it to 30fps using Handbrake but that's a time consuming pain.

So instead I'd like to find something that will remove every other frame 'on the fly' so to speak. I've looked for addons and Tampermonkey scripts but all that I've found have limitations - for example they reduce the fps but also the resolution. Or, in the case of addons, they are very 'invasive' and seem to require far too many permissions.

I uninstalled drivers, simplified my set up, re-followed the video tutorial I had initially followed to absolutely no avail. Also tried using VirtualDub after lurking here and seeing it recommended but once again, only the video feed appears.

Any advice? Genuinely down to try anything!

For what it's worth, I had purchased a second GV-USB2 to see if that would solve the problem but same issue persists so I dont believe it is a hardware issue.

I have found test cases where using this program more than once on a file can cause it to become unreadable. It appears that the file corruption only occurs only when there are forced tracks and the files are operated on more than once. As of 5/30/2026, this issue exists in all versions of this program (original and modified) except for versions 1.4 and above released by Ranft65. I have filled an issue for the affected versions.
